Something I noticed over the weekend, very apparent lately. Noticed that more and more drivers, especially local makes and Jap cars are being more gung-ho and recklessly fast even when the roads are wet and driving conditions are appalling, such as heavy rain with little visibility or wet roads. Case in point, just last Saturday afternoon, I left Subang for my trip up north to Ipoh, noticed a really fast Proton Persona pulling away from the 'famous' Subang Big U-Turn towards Federal Highway, KL Bound. I then told my gf, what the hell in the world is this fella trying to do. Roads are wet + slight drizzle, in no way will I drive that fast in the rain. So, once I reached the tip of the slope whereby I needed to slow down to join the road prior to the fork between Glenmarie or Fed Highway, I could roughly see the same Persona already blasting past the valley and making his way towards the Fed Highway at full pelt. So, happily drove on, in the middle lane of that 3 lane road , then as I made my way just across the tight corner under the flyover from Glenmarie towards Toyota/Wisma Tractors, lo and behold, what did I see? The exact same Persona, already in the ditch before the sorta mini jungle island thingy. The car was on the metal divider, sideways, and front left wheel already dislodged from the car. Driver was still inside the car when I drove past. Saw a white delivery lorry on the right lane a few metres after the Persona, stopped on the fast lane, but I couldn't fathom any damage to the lorry when I drove past. Not too sure what really occurred there with the lorry and the Persona, but my guess would probably be the car trying to go past the bend really quickly. & judging from the way his car landed in that position, I suppose the car lost control at that particular sharp corner under the flyover... Simply dreadful. And later that night, as I was making my way north towards Kuala Kangsar from Ipoh via the highway, it started to rain heavily halfway before the Menora tunnel, and since it was my first time driving on that stretch in the rain + darkness, I took it slowly. Call me slow and a slouch but no way am I going to play with lady luck especially in the rain, even if my car has a new set of tyres. After all, better be safe than sorry. :)
