Understand about unsprung mass and rotational inertia so that you would never buy cheap rims ever again, also the bigger the rim size (also the weight), the more power the car needs to move and brake. For example, have you noticed that F1 cars don't have huge rims and also uses carbon or better materials. If you can ever have a chance to lift up a F1 car rim / wheel, they are incredibly light.http://www.hrewheels.com/hre_in_action/tech_talk/rotational-inertias-effect-on-performance/Here is something for all of us to consider (if money is not the factor) to upgrade our rims / wheels. HRE (a high-end exotic wheel producer) has launched their Carbon and Aluminum wheels. They are absolutely delicious :) not so how much they cost, but I'm sure they are very light and strong.Time to save up for some Carbon wheels :)http://www.hrewheels.com/wheels/series.php?q=/CARBON/CF40/

Stuttgart in Tmn Mayang is bringing them in on order. Expect the price to range Rm70k per set for just wheels. Although CF is strong and stiff, its brittle as well. These HRE carbon wheels are meant for show and street applications. Not for track wheels. Also CF wheels have been around for a while esp on motorcycle wheels and have known to shatter during the initial mounting during the inflation of the tyre. Basically when you hear the "POP", your heart will skip a beat for sure

Check out what Speedline designed and R&D'ed 23 years ago for the Lancia Rally car. 6kgs per wheel, full CF wheel.

Magnesium wheels like those in F1 seem more tried and tested and is suitable for racing and rallying purposes.

HRE 2 piece carbon fibre wheel is made in partnership with Dymag ... Dymag has been making full CF and 2 piece CF wheels for some time now ... For the 2 piece wheel the centre spoke/face of the wheels is magnesium while the barrel is CF offered by Dymag meanwhile HRE offers a lower end product whereby the centre face is forged aluminum ...

6kg per wheel is very heavy le. U sure ka?

Its a rally car gravel wheel 8 x 16'. Not bad le. Altho it looks like it, its not full CF. My bad.

"The rims are made of carbon fabric impregnated with epoxy resin, with an aluminium honeycomb for the flange. In order to cope with the high temperatures developed by the ventilated Brembo disc brakes, an adhesive film has been used while the edges of the rims have been strengthened with a secret component. The total weight of an 8x16ins gravel rim is a mere 6kgs."

Why I say 6kg per wheel is not light.

Check out my collection of this sets of Racing Sparco that was taken out of a Spoon Racing EG6 in the 90's. The original Spoon color can still be seen, 2 yellows for front and 2 blues for the rear.

It PCD 100x4, 14" only weight no more than 20kg for all 4.. :D

Cannot compare la. 16' vs. 14' and one is gravel rally spec. The width of the barrel also makes a big diff in weight.
