Salam & Good Day everyone =]Before anything, I am a guy. Please don't let the word "virgin" in the thread title mislead you =PI'm currently driving my late father's Iswara Aeroback due to sentimental & economical reasons. I've yet to own a car. I'm currently staying at Ampang & I work at HSBC. I came to know about bmwclubmalaysia.com via Google around middle of 2010 when I was surfing for a starting point to learn more about Beemers as I one plan to own one one day. After surfing around I found that it's a good place to find Beemer lovers, sifus, otais, enthusiasts & gurus so I figured this is where I would start my learning.I'm planning to get a Beemer by the end of this year as my first car & also as a present for my 30th birthday. I hope to get some (plenty!!!) pointers from all of you.I'm torn between a second hand 1 series or E46. I'm also comparing these 2 cars against the Volvo S40'05 & the new Scirocco as alternative options. However, at the moment I'm more concerned about the 2 Beemers that I'm interested in.I've been told that the 1 series isn't a great car for the BMW driving experience, but I'm also a little afraid of getting a second hand E46 because they're often at least 6-8 years old.Can someone help me? =]

Salam n welcome to the forum adnan..both are great choices of bimmers..sure many otais of e46 will answer what sort of help u need..

If u can lay ur hand on a decent E46.330i, I bet u lose your virginity overnite.

If you can consider a brand new scirocco, why not an E90 320D M-Sport or 325i M-Sport? Anyway you need to test drive each car and evaluate your requirements. Yup as mentioned by ay39 if you can lay your hands on an E46 330 you're in a treat :top:

Thanks guys for your replies. To be honest I am very very interested in the E46 330. Thing is I've been told that due to E46 being electronics, the cost of repairs & maintenance is higher. Apparently it also has gear issues & you'd have to reignite the car should the gears fail. Can someone confirm this?

b33mEr, re the E90 series, to be frank I prefer the coupe. Would that a good option to consider too?

E92 is a sexy beast ... If you're feeling adventurous and willing to stretch a bit more you can get an E92 335i with 300hp of goodness and loads of torque to blow off most cars on the road.

p/s: when you say reignite the E46 when the gear fails do you mean like burn the car down or ? :4:

I meant restarting the engine/car bro. Do you know any more of these common issues with the E46? I don't know where to check apart from forums lah...

re the racun photo, I can only sigh. And dream. And wipe. And sigh. And dream. And then wipe again... =P
