Message: <blockquote data-quote="moots" data-source="post: 735965" data-attributes="member: 219">If only the head gasket is burnt,you will only need a top overhaul,which will cost half of what's quoted.I went thru an engine change on my previous e39 with an M52 engine.After opening up the head only we discovered that piston #6 was holed(a small one) hence nil compression.I decided for an engine chg based on the 10 year relationship that I have with the shop owner and that I know the mechanics that work there pretty well and that they know that I am a DIY guy and am well versed with Engineering in general.Also I made sure that the shop owner knows what I expect of their work and I got my car back with a very good 2nd hand engine with no issues.So ,the choice is really yours bro..........</blockquote>
