issit?
but the car's mileage is only 30k km only..
need to change ATF?

Sorry, what I mean is check the hydraulic level... Look for a black container with a cap that look like a eight side star. There is a small dip stick about 3" length.

the power steering hose is known to pop off in the E46 if not replaced within the recommended mileage...looks like you have loss of power assistance and could be due to the absence or loss of fluid...it is also very likely that the power steering pump is damaged as well by now..sorry

regards

i still hasn't got the time to check the oil level..
anyway...what's the recommended mileage to change the power steering hose?
the car is about 30k km and approaching 5 yrs old soon..
i really hope nothing major happens..

hello, check the oil level is only 1 minute.. how can say no time. If you have time to pump petrol, you have time to check the coolant level, oil level, ATF level, brake fluid level. These are the normal thing an owner of a car must do..

BUT you don't have to do the above if you have an E90..:thefinger: except pump petrol (so boring)

For a 5 year old car, your mileage is very low (6000 KM per year)

I have the same experience after my workshop did some work on the car. They explained that when filling the steering fluid, air bubbles seeped in. After they refilled everything back to normal

ok..checked the car..
its ok..
fluid kinda low..

BUT....few days back my brake pads light showed
so i changed the pads..but the light still there..

how to remove the annoying light?

your brake pad sensor is kaput.. need to change it. when the light comes on, the sensor is very close to the brake disc. you are advise to change it within 1000km or so. if not, the sensor will be damage when the brake pad get wear down further.

should cost you about RM180 per sensor.

Note; there is one in front and one at the back..

Glad to hear that you have managed to solve the steering problem.. so the problem is lack of fluid..

The brake lights can be low fluid or handbrake on, make sure ur car is not sharing the same indicators.

Now if its really the pad, then u need to look for the pad sensor and see which one is "used" to trigger the indicator. I had an E36 and hope its the same with ur ride..

The way the sensor work is the sensor itself is a ceramic or glass capsule with lots of wires inside. The moment the pad is low, the disc rotor will brake the capsule allowing the wires to stick out and touch the brake rotor which happens to be grounded as -ve to complete the sensor circuit to lit the indicator.

Once this happen, u can't just replace the pad. The broken sensor needs to be replaced too. The workshop should be able to advice u mah?! otherwise the sticking wires on the sensors will continue to lit the indicator what !?

This is the E36 sensor:

This is the E46 sensor, looks like the same:

The curve section will break due to friction form the rotor when the pad is too thin.

I always check my pad and doesn't allow this to happen. I will replace the pad when its about to hit my sensor, so I save on the sensor.. :D

Nothing to worry about. It just that an E90 have all the sensors incorporated in the engine management system. This means that you really don't need to open the bonnet to check oil level, coolant etc. The informations can be obtained from the dashboard. That I why I say boring because cannot look inside the engine to "feel" it.. Do you know that there is NO oil dipstick for an E90..(so don't look for it)

WHhhhhAT!!!

Can someone plz pass me a cold tower... ? ..... I .. I ...I ..... am passing out... I need air...
....

[After a while..]

Wow.... another automotive engineering milestone to add to the list of what JDM will have in 15 years from now... :top:

I like to smell my engine oil for burnt smell :stupid: and check the seriousness of carbon particles in the engine oil.. now how? Luckily still got oil cap..

Looks like good news for my missy... I have no excuse not to company her for her shopping boring trips..

W: U like the blue or the black dress?
M: Black..
W: But blue also nice ma..
M: Then buy both..
W: But I thought u say u like black?
M: .....

Plzzzzz.... help me... !!!

astroboy, I know exact what you means!!! From the dashboard, it will tell you when to change the oil and the balance of mileage till the next oil change. So you don't need to smell the oil anymore.. No excuse to work on the car anymore. so now you better accompany the wifey to go shopping... ha..ha..

Then jarance, how do I know how much oil to pour in when I replace engine oil? No dipstick to check?

Good question... err.. I was told by the Sapura Service Manager that they will do it at their workshop.

seriously, the oil level will be display on the dashboard. From there you can estimate how much oil to pour in. (Just like petrol tank)

what if i dont change the sensors?
nothing will happen right? coz the pads are changed, just that i got to live with the irritating warning light
i can ignore that

for the moment nothing. what happen when the brake pad is worn out to the bare metal and you keep using it. Metal to metal rub will cause your disk to fail prematurely or be worn out faster. The replacement of the brake disk will cost you a lot more than your brake pad sensor.
