hey there,does anyone happen to know a good place where i can take my e28 to adjust the steering box free play....im looking for someone who knows this car well and has the right tools and experience to properly calibrate it...i've been to many people and even so called bmw specialists dont seem to do it properly...so if anyone knows a good place please let me know...thanks alot!

yea its pretty messed up, most people don't even jack the car up when adjusting the box...i dont know how they even feel the load the adjust....however from my research...i find that its best adjusted when the box is out of the car...and there's use of a torque wrench and such...so far most of the guys i find have no clue about any of that...its very frustrating...im considering learning the procedure and just doing it myself if i can't find a competent mechanic.

Yupp, all the ones i've seen tighten from the of the car using a long torque wrench extended to the box. How to adjust when the box is out? Can you feel it?
Bentley manual don't cover it either. They have most of the procedures to remove etc, but nothing about tightening it.

Sounds interesting but i need to know a little more...whats ur procedure like? i have the box outside actually...its not on the car...normally all the adjustments i've had done lasts maximum abt 2 months with very little driving...after that it becomes worse than it was b4....have a look at this...is ur method similar? http://www.stangerssite.com/adjustment.html
