I have a spare key that does not have the remote function working.Following the tips on “How to” ,I attempted a try or two.Serupa tikus baiki labu!……Not only my spare key could not be reactivated ,my main key also went kaput!E46-DIYStock keyless entry problem -if remotes wouldn’t work. If you haven't used the key in a long time, it will need to be recharged and reset. Recharging comes from driving with the key in the ignition for at least 30 minutes. Resetting means unlocking all doors with your key, and putting your key in the ignition and turning to position 1 (computer and radio on). Switch off within 5 seconds, remove the key and press the LOCK(with the logo on it) button 3 times WHILE simultaneously holding down the UNLOCK button . When you release the UNLOCK button, your doors should lock and unlock. If you need to do a second key do it Within 30 seconds, reset your 2nd key the same way: hold down the UNLOCK button, press LOCK 3 times. Again, the doors should lock and unlock. Following my failed attempts,I paid a visit to a non-dealer workshop in Ipoh.My visit there was non-productive.The poor guy had to refer to his manual several times before he gave up. Suggested I visit the BM-dealer.Instead, I went to new workshop whose owner was an ex-Catrtrade guy. Confidently he managed to reset the main key but could not activate the spare. Was advised to recharge the key battery by using the spare when driving over a period of a week or so .Went back to him yesterday but still my spare key could not be activated. Was told the spare key could have been damaged before like falling /immersed in water. Could not offer any further help. He also mentioned a new replacement key could cost only ab RM800/- !Now, all you kind souls out here ,what next?Any suggestion/comment is much appreciated.Thanks.

Probably none in this forum has experienced what you have experienced. Both keys are meant to be used at regular intervals - so says the owners manual. Looks like you dont have much of a choice - if you cant "hack" it by charging it you can only buy a new one, short of using the other non remote control keys.

well, as far E46 keys in msia r concerned, its not repairable, it cant b opened fer inspection, nope, nuffin u can do bout it, its d end alrite. the guys in bmw has sealed it ultrasonically at the seam.

y not try to pay AB a visit, then ask if the technician cld reset the keys fer u, else, u just pissed 800-900 bucks away my fren, heh ;)

unsure bout the procedures now, but few yrs bck u also hevta bring along yer car registration (photocopy will do), cos they (AB) need to hev dat copy faxed to germany fer verification b4 they cld send over a replacement. now, u may hevta wait fer as long as a mth fer replacement!!

best wishes n gd luck dude :)
