Hi all,i got a few question to ask the sifu here, since i'm very new in the UDM world1. My power window can work without even turning the ignition on or without inserting the key, same goes to the light on the power window switch always on no matter what conditon. is this all normal?2. can i know where is the power steering reservoir is?my engine is 2.0 :D 3. When i drove my car, when i shift to 2nd gear(in normal smooth drive) suddenly the will jerk like hiccup then back to normal if i saty in 2nd gear abit longer. Same happend in 3rd gear sometimes. This will not happend if i quicly shift to hinger gear. why is this is this normal. your help is very much appreciable. Thanks in advance

1. Power window will be able to work once your front door (either left or right) is open - without even turning the ignition on. My mech told me there is a relay controlling this feature  .

2. Power steering reservoir is situated at left hand side (passenger side) of your engine, in front of brake fluid reservoir (refer photo).

3. Does it happen to cold engine?
It happens to me if the engine is still cold & it gets worst if raining in the morning :( . Got the distributor cap replaced & the problem solved :D .

Hope this could help.

What about the lights on the power window switch. i found mine always on regardless of any situation. Anyboy know the original condition? :D

to answer your questions

1) yes, it's normal. it's a feature of the e30. I find it usefull to wind down the glass without having to plug my key to the car. If you don't like it or when you are working on your car doors open. You can switch it off.

2) i believe it's answered

3) quite subjective. can be your afm, can be your gearbox, can be your long shaft coupling. you need to diagnose to find a partner in your faults to counter it.

Hope this helps.

2cents,

i really cant go TT(internal affair problem) :D . Then what is this forum for? For people like me lah hehehe..

elwine

can i confirm again with you, my power window can run without opening the door and so are the lights. The lights will stay on the whole day 24-7

anyway thanks for the info

In my recent experience...it can drain da batteries....so guess wat happened...

Well there is a door switch...that's located at the door...its sapose to turn off the whole circuit of da car...eg when you close da car door the cabin lights will go off...so I guess dat you would hfta change that...should not cost you a lot...hope that helps!let me know if you still not clear...can pm me...welcum!! :)

thanks Six potter, but what i observed, only the power window and the switch light is still working. the cabin light will off. maybe i suspect some wiring problem.

Try to contact dis guy - Richard (h/p: 019-215 9223). He is an electrician, location at Tmn. Sg. Besi, & he is familiar with E30 wiring system (coz he owns a well kept E30 320i Coupe) .
