~6000km a year of mileage is suspect of a well maintained car. maybe the odometer is rigged. for a 1995 car, it should have high mileague and high mileague is not necessarily bad. while it is a case of willing seller and willing buyer, in this case, i feel the seller knowingly deceived the buyer by not providing full disclosure. you're definitely shortchanged and you could try to approach the seller for some compensation as you said. certainly he did not disclose fully of the faults to you when he should have and that this can be a case you can build on. however, you need to build your evidence that he knowingly sold you something defective. find out from the workshops he went to to collect evidence. i believe he is already aware of the serious problems and this could be the reason he wanted to dispose it. this may make him share the cost or else you can take it to the court for failing to disclose to you. anyway, it's a good learning experience. i know what it is like to go back to workshop squatting down to see them do the car and big waste of time.
