I have noticed lately that when I start my car in the mornings or when the engine is cold, I get a screeching metallic sound when I turn the ignition. The sound is only when I crank the ignition and goes away when the car starts. It only happens when engine is cold. Any idea what is causing this sound? Thanks

get a new car!

After all i've spent, cant afford to-lah.

I believe its at the tail end...really hope so!

Anyway today I heard a squeling sound from after the car started. Turned off the air con sound went away. Drove for 5 mins w/o aircon and then turn aircon back on...no more sound.

I guess its the air con belt?

If you suspect the sound is coming from the belt, you can try to buy a spray can of belt lubricant from DIY shop.

but first check the tension of all the belts. loose belt can caused squeak sound.

+1 for the belt tension.

They usually need checking and re-tensioning a few weeks after install or if they're getting old.

Spray should be the last resort...
