Hello all. I seek advice from the guru here. Below is a picture of rust coming out of my car. My question:-Should I get this part fixed?Or could can this wait until I restore the whole car. Problem is, I currently don't have time to do this. I probably can start on the restoration project at the end of the year or next year.

rust will spread... the longer it takes to be cured, the further it eats up the car.

If u are not planning to restore the whole as yet then my suggestion is to scrape off the area. Sand it down then apply some rust converter. That will prevent the rust from spreading. You will be amazed how the rust converter works. BTW these are expensive stuffs. 1 litre of good rust converter could cost around RM80 upwards. I use then when restoring cars of the 60's.

+1. If the rust area is small, just buy a small bottle. Many brands available, I'm using Kurust 90ml bottle, got good result after applying on rusted area. Please post pictures of your car wjie20.

Agree with Vincent Hor. Scrape it, sand it down, clean it with some strong solvent, apply some rust converter and, if possible a couple of layers of primer as well. It'll look horrible but it should minimize further decay. Oh...and remember to work around an inch further than the effected area...the more the better. Hopefully it's still on the surface and didn't punch through the metal......

Your first step is to remove the rust with sandpaper, 150 grit. Proceed slowly when removing paint and rust so that you don't remove or cut into the metal.
Pls wear a glooves for safety percaution.

Use a scrap if needed for a more severe area

Sanding

When the severe boil bubble rust removed you will need to sand the area by hand with 250-grit sandpaper, move on to 300-grit paper. Make sure is clean and dirt-free.

Covering

Cover the area surrounding with newspaper and masking tape.

Painting

Now good to apply a primer - tips very light coats. It works best to wait between 30 minutes between each application. pls wait for in between coats to stop the paint from dripping. recommended 3-4 coats . \
Now get a pint of paint from the auto paint shop to match yr color paint . You will apply the paint in several coats. Patience please.... need around five or six light coats will pay off in a good-looking job that lasts longer. let the paint dry overnight and then remove the newspaper and masking tape.

you only require a little patience & Plenty of PASSION

Have fun

Hmm, good idea. I would do that on another car, at least if I fail on that one, it wouldn't be too painful to my heart.

Mind I ask, Would you be able to do it? I'll PM you if can.
