Someone offer me to take over a X3 with a very reasonable price.

I test the car but found out some issue.

When i pedal to 4k or 4.5k rpm, the rpm will suddenly cut off and the whole car lost power with DSC 4x4 and ABS light error come out. The car will then tremble and can not accelerate anymore.

The error will go off after i restart the car.

Gearbox issue? Engine issue? The car fitted with M54B25 engine. Should be act same like other same series engine car.

This symptom is usually associated with defective ignition coils/spark plugs or ABS sensor. If you plug in any diagnostic tester, it will display the error code for you to rectify.

If only coil or plug error, then fine. I am worry about the Gb problem.

I think it has something to do with the xdrive. Could be something as simple as the speed sensor or if it is serious, the transfer case. The whole system is inter linked (xdrive, dsc, etc) so one faulty sensor can cause a lot of problems.

With the X Series, apart from the transmission (be it manual or automatic), there is a transfer case unit as part of the overall set up.
The transfer case ensures that the xDrive work efficiently. The transfer case is a separate unit attached to the transmission.
Maybe this is what is meant by "2 gearbox"

I have owned an X3 for the last 3 years and I know how sensitive the transfer case unit can be to the enjoyment of the ride.
DSC 4 x 4 and ABS light errors can be due to a faulty gearbox and/or transfer case.

Should be around 3k-4k. Mscope can do it. There is another gearbox specialist nearby taman maju jaya. Shops name is sin tatt autotrans. The boss is an old guy. Pleasent and honest fellow.

I had to rebuild the transfer case on my 2006 ride in January 2015.
Most of the parts within the transfer case were replaced and they were sourced from outside Malaysia (not available locally). With labour cost, final $$$ closer to RM 4K. This was when the FX rate between US:RM was 3.50. Today with an exchange rate of RM 4.40, it will definitely be closer to RM 5K.
There is a write up in the X-series forum here.

In conclusion, the $$$ spent was well worth the time & effort.

Notice another problem after a round of test run.

In low speed ie standstill to first gear to second gear, i can feel the "duh-duh" from gearbox or drive train.

Will bring the ride to check today. Hope nothing serious.
