upgrading from E30 to E34 will definitely make me a bit clumpsy when parking and etc. Not only for my benefits, it is for my wife too :p So 1st priority is to install a reliable Reverse Sensor ........Anyone has done that ? Looking for cost effective and reliable one ..............

That's one of my wife's must do list as well. Have not gone shopping for it yet. If I happen to find one, I will keep you posted but please don't hold your breath.

Thanks !

i am trying avoid getting those used by Wira / Waja ones, i think those are not so reliable.

That's why need others feedback .....

Brothers sell it cheap..but btr get a good electrician to install it..not them..thinking of installing a set for front parking 2 kekkekkek :D

Albert, Pse allow me 2 join ur project. May I know where ur going 2fix the sensors? On, in or below the bumper? On n below the bump makes it look like an add on items. The only choice left is ........hmn. That also if u want 2make it look ori n cool man!
This work require a good "borer" beside a competent electrician. Betultak? .
TQ.

Exactly...!!! If anyone can make it look out-of-the-factory, pls share here...

I think we should cosider the following,

1. All sensors should be waterproof. I mean really heavy duty waterproff. This can be proof when those carwash boy will really aim their pressurized hose during cleaning. I have seen some of them spraying like they are fogging aedes mosquitoes. They aim at the door-sill,window-sill and boot-sill. No wonder some owner did complain - damp seat, damp roof lining and damp carpet. Not to mention O2 sensor at the undercarriage.

2. The sensors should be almost flush with the bumper when view at certain angle. This looks neat and ori, not like some guy (with due respect 2them) where the sensors are protuding or "hanging" at the bumper. Worst when u see they fix these sensors at the alluminium n cromed bar.Very vulnerable to itchy fingers. The best place is IN THE BUMPER itself.

3.The sensors should be able to give a reasonable and plesantly pitch to the driver in the car with all the windows wind up. 4.The sensors wires can be jointed and soldered to the reverse lights wires. Make sure the sensors wires are flush with body of the car before leading into the boot area. It look awful if the wires are dangling underneath the bumper of the udm.

Then there are digital RS in the market which show the distance of an object from the bumper as compare to the basic RS which emit repeated pitch. More frequency as the object is nearer to the bumper. U have to get used to the frequency to gauge the distance of the oject while with the GRS u have to see the reading at the screen which need to be install at the dashboard. :getyourfactsright:

Oh, this is one of my fav installs as it is cheap and effective. Buy a decent looking one. There are many to choose from : aftermarket. Ask your self what is important ?. Good accuracy ?. Good detection of objects, left-right bias. Good digital display plus warning chimes/beeps ?. Shape or size of display.

Most of these are made in China. Even OEM ones from Toyota are made there so quality is about the same. Just the workmanship of the kit you need to determine.

I have 2 installs on my E34s.

First one: E34 sedan uses Poron (Hong Kong brand) with rectangular sensors. Each hardened rubber sensor block has two ultrasonic sender/receivers. 3 included in the kit. For left centre right. I used only 2 sensor blocks.
LED panel is very thin and cables are flattened like a phone table but black. Each to line and conceal in the car. I had the display superglued just above the centre aircond vends using a hand built metal support bracket.
The sensor units were glued just underneath rear tail lights. 3M sticker provided. Unit hiden behind inner taillight housing and wired to reverse light.
Works very well, it give distance to 1cm accuracy. Yeah, I like to park 5 cm to the wall!. I measured and calibrated this unit. That was 3 years ago.

Recent one in my Touring. This CHina made one looks just like the one Toyota uses in their range of Camrys. Need to drill hole in bumper to stick it in. Drill bit provided. Simple enough with a Bosch drill. Thread wired from behind bumper and run that to rear light cluster wired to reverse light. This display on this one is digital and has Left or Righ bias. Horizontal bars to indicate which side distance it reads. The very unfortunate thing about this kit is that it can read from 2 meters or nearer. It does the job in close proximity reverse parking.

My other kit can read my neighbour's gate at 35 metres!!!. Brilliant!.
Good luck.

PS: Oh, the PDC display screen in X3 or E60 can "see" grass!. It is green on the display. Solid objects are red!. I was impressed.

Bert,

I am not living in KL now. Manila : Left-hand drive city.
Its about RM 200 approx.

Take a look at my PDC for old and new one. Here

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/824698/9

Old one is *below* AC vends. New one above. Old one has red LEDs on a strip. New one has crowled look with yellow lid LED and orange and red led bars on left or right sides to determine left/right bias. Easy to do. Don't need electrician. Unit takes power from reverse light. Just wire/solder in parallel with one buld harness. It so easy, you gotta DIY on this one!.

Auto shops has plenty of these things these days.
