hi all bmwcm members...just want to ask if there any place that can recondition car absober...if have, please let me know.tq

The official language in this forum is English. Appreciate your help to post so that everyone can read and understand your question and hopefully can share their experiences with you.

Most branded absorber is serviceable because can get aftermarket service kit. However, only a handful people in the market can or willing to do it because tedious job and need certain specialised tools and skill. I know there are people sapu OEM absorber from chop shop and recondition them and sell them as new to spare part shop. Unsuspecting laymen like me is unable to tell the difference, but some "honest" spare part shop will tell u its recond unit and the price of course if cheap la, some more got one year warranty. New OEM absorber also very expensive la. Why u need to recond them? Want to stiffen it by using thicker oil?

What brand/model of absorber u using?

actually just asking.
bcoz one of my friend tell me that he have read one article that have a place can recondition ur absober..
can make as what u want...
hard or soft..
the place is at seremban...
not sure the exactly location and the cost is rm100/pair.
anyone know bout this?

My E28 seems to sit a bit higher than usual when compared to other E28. The other day on the highway when running about 180, the back tend to swing a bit when taking right corner, but left corner no such symptom. Hope all the sifus can help out a bit :) Thanks guys!

Oh, mine is the humble Alfasud that I've kept with me all this while. The original Spica shockers maker went out of business sometime ago and those aftermarket suppliers like Federal Mogul or Monroe didn't seem to be able to replicate the damping qualities of the Spicas.

So I took mine to this guy, and he dissected it and used back the same valve sizes. Not as good as the originals but better than the aftermarket imports mentioned above, in my personal opinion. I paid about RM1.2K for a set of 4, refurbished in the front and new at the back.

Good news is there is a product warranty and it is repairable.

From what I learned from this absorber maker, they can be valved to your preferences. Since it moves up and down (compress and rebound) they can valved it harder so it takes more effort to compress and delay the return by using smaller orifice valves. Or they can do just the opposite for a softer ride.

On some cars like my Merc E240, lowering with sport springs entails replacing all the shockers with a shorter type (correspondingly shorter stroke). Using the original tall shockers with sport springs with these car will kill them (the shockers) in no time. Why don't you look into the website for Konis or Eibach or H&R? These are reputable sport suspension makers, I got mine for the Merc from Eibach and it gave lots of improvements on the ride.

tkw, Thanks for the great info. I will look into the shockers and springs. How is the comfort level of your E240 after the shockers and Eiback change? Better than original?
