recond starter

recently my starter gear of my car just said bye bye to me, my mechanic said that it is the starter clutch failuer.... the ori part will cost about 800+ or 1000 i forgot liao, so i opted for a recond one, which cost me RM490 (expensive ah??)..... however i not really satisfy with it, because sometime when i start my car, there will be some scretching sound.... sometime not there.... because the recond starter got 3 months warrantly, so i can change another one if i want, my mechanic told me to try and see, see whether the sound will go or not because that starter gear was not used for sometime, my question is that the scratching sound sounds a bit scary leh, will it damaging any part of my car????thanks,willie

RM490... so 'cheap' ah???? u shud have asked me I got spare... hehehhe

what sort of scratching sound is that??? i don't think there's any way u can describe that in text.. got to hear it to know..

I also got spare mah kept for rainny days. got it as I bought a m40 engine few years back but sad sold my alternator 250 or 350 to Sam on emergency holiday for a guy going long distance, after few months my alternator gone that is the time I cry as it was at 2am my car stop in the middle of the H/Way with no sound and lights, wait for 1/2 hr then start it works on the light only small off I go reach home flat again my brush and bearing gone and done it.

i think it sounds something like when u are driving a manual car, u shift the gear without pressing on the clutch..... like one gear can't fit into another gear, maybe the ratio is wrong like that....

before i change to this recond one, another mechanic tried with a replica starter gear which is new, but then accordong to my father there is some scratching sounds also, i myself didn't hear it, i suspect is the same one......
