hi guys.....my car's a manual. currently from standstill, when engaging 1st gear, theres a 'doong' sound from the rear diff. so what i do is, before engaging, get the 1st gear to the gate, wait for the 'doong', then slot in 1st gear. so hoisted the car, discovered that the rear bit of the longshaft that connects to the rear diff has 'freeplay'. the center coupling and front part of the shaft is tight. been driving like that for awhile, sounds getting irritating.so i guess the 'head' of the rear bit of the longshaft is worn out. or could it be the diff?anyways, was offered 2 solutions by 2 different mechs. 1. find a chop-chop shaft, and replace. but heard its hard to find a complete shaft in good condition. 2. supposedly there's a way to remove the shaft head and machine a new head on it. apparently its been done, and problem was solved.so now....has anyone faced this problem b4? and solutions offered which wont make me run to 7-11 to buy a box of panadol? :((thanks
