Much as I sympathise with Daniel, we only talk about how the UDM constantly giving problems but we never talk about how we give problems to the car and the way we abuse it dialy. for example putting in the biggest and widest wheels and rubbers possible, drive the car like a drag queen, hitting unholy highway speeds at all the time, picking a fight with whatever car that challenge us at the next traffic light, trashing the car into every corners, burning rubbers at will, idling everyday a traffic jams with aircon on, driving less than 10km to buy groceries...and the list goes on. most of us do that even knowing our car is not maitained in tip-top conditions. Of couse the result will be disasterous. Well I not am saying we shouldn't be doing all that to our UDM, that's one of the reason we own them in the first place, to be able to drive them hard. but ALL mechanical parts and components (regardless of how well they are designed) will fail eventually especially if they are put to use under conditions they are not designed for. Its a matter of how badly we abuse them. And for those who pick up thier UDM second hand, which has already been 4-5 year old min, be very sure you will need to dump substaintial amount of money for wear and tear parts. No need to cry or curse. Nothing to do with BMWs not designed to last. Their cars doesn't attain thier reknown status by accident. The bavarians design their cars benchmarked on ride comfort, steering feel, handling and braking dynamics, and they know their stuff in this realm. And they tune the BMW into something which is affordable and plesurable to drive. Please remember that the UDM is just a a mass produced sports salon, not a freaking ego/pr*ck/status boosting marque like how we treat them in Malaysia.
