hey there

if family members are discouraging you , then you better listen to them ..or else when the car breakdown , the blame will be on you for not listening to them ....

get a japanese brand instead ...an accord , camry ...

,my 2 cent

A lot of people can afford to buy it but to maintain it is painfull.

It's not to say that it's problematic, but obviously if you're considering a 2nd hand car, then everything boils down to your luck and how meticulous you were when you selected the car. A 10 yr old BMW would be no less troublesome than a 10 yr old Honda or Toyota. But obviously, a new Honda or Toyota would generally give less problems than a 10 yr old BMW.

That said, you do need deep pockets if you're getting a 2nd hand car. Cuz even if car is well maintained, depending on the mileage certain items would be due for replacement anyway. And yes, BMW parts are not cheap!!!

As for power, if you love to drive hard, then 325 is for you. Definitely the power is there. But fuel saving? No lar.... that's contradictory. You want power and drive hard, you sacrifice fuel efficiency in the process.

So good luck bro. Remember, you yourself know your own situation best. This is a car, which can ONLY be classified as a hobby and NOT an investment as it will only depreciate. So you shouldn't kill yourself over it. Only if you're sure you have the excess dough to maintain the car, then go ahead. How much you need to maintain the car? Well, aside from about RM5-10K for initial service after you get the car, usual maintenance cost me about average RM2K/year (including the normal wear-and-tear replacements, most recent was the alternator at RM1.4K)

Performance comes with a price. A BMW is so much more complicated in order to achieve that. Oviously it has more parts to be replaced whe it's old.

A vehicle which carry you point A to point B is normally made for easy & lower cost of maintenance. A CAR which comes with fun factor will need passion to maintain it, so that you enjoy it the max.

The answer is within urself, gotta balance between life & judge whether u have the passion & pocket for it. If u can do that, the u hv the fun not pain.

I am driving a 6yrs old E46 325i, when I bought it, the amount I paid can nearly buy a brand new Camry/According 2.0, but I am happy with my decision. Driving is becoming fun again with it, I know I won't get that with Camry/Accord. Morever, regardless of a 6yrs old car, the cabin is silent, no irritating squeaking sound here & there.

Good luck, think hard before you execute, also be very careful if u decide to go for a BMW, always send the car to a trusted workshop or AutoBavaria or else where to check, just pay a little. It help you to save more.

try it, like it, buy it!! you will find a way to keep her afloat... life is short ! enjoy my friend... japs nowaday dont come cheap either...good luck

Hey bro, recently i just bought mine E46 2.0 6 cyclinder 01-06. At first, i was having the same problem as u, which is worry bout the maintenance and etc. M1 boss told me to choose 6 cyclinder engine, its either 320, 325 or 328. The reason why is because 6 cyclinder are much more reliable compare to 4 cyclinder (valvetronic). Well of course if u take care of it, it will not give u headact. Regarding the maintenance, its obviously higher compare to japanese car, but remember, u are driving BMW. Its way different due to design, compact, confort or u will feel something special. Overrall still depends on individual owner, it ur vehicle well being taking care of, meaning will safe ur wallet. 325 is 2500cc, im sure that any car with that cc will give higher fuel comsumption. Get a good workshop and it will helps u alot on saving ur wallet :D. If u wan more advise, u can call me up or we go mamak chit chat, then i explain to u. Meanwhile i will show u my car and how satisfied i am. Cya. 012-2383871 (Perry Yip)

Just to further the discussion, whate are the pros and cons of getting either CKD, UK or JPN specced units?

Quality, maintenance, parts etc

Just wanna interrupt here. I think no need to open new thread if it just asking about the market value of an E46.

How much E46 330ci M-Sport 02/07 is selling now? Stock condition.

Thanks all.
