I was discussing with this painter who is in the industry for 25 years. He seems knowledgeable in his work and hands on when spray paint. But his workshop does not use Glasurit which I swear is the best paint. To him Dupont is the best. He is the contractor for Volvo cars in PJ. How? Your opinion might help me to decide.

Most painters says they are good and so fore, but check out the real result of cars he has done and that is the proof of good workmanship. I came across many talk cock painters or any profession in the end gave a lousy job. This is what I had gone thru and never trust any unless proven.

This is just my point of view.

Had even bought books for painter that did my car those days but fail too, once I sent a car which I am selling to a cousin for painting, suppost to help a trained painter that I knew, was so sad of the workmanship that I refused to collect the car..... not even want to have a second look of it so sad that I ask the new owner to collect himself and I don't want to see it again till today (heard the car caught fire in the end, sad its a rare car here) the painter got good firing from me refuse to accept my payment, but I still pay, no more jobs and friendship from me till today. Gave him 2 cars to paint but failed so he is fit to be a car jaga only...talks hell of alot on paints at last proven shit I get. sorry ahh I think I am to much.

Put it this way........some poeple repetitively do the wrong thing for 25 yrs........

DUPONT paint sucks!

Ask him to show you some of the cars that he has done. NO, not the freshly painted ones, but those cars that have had his paint job for at least 3 yrs. That is the true judgement of any sifu's work.

Workmanship is of utmost importance and then the paint quality. I have seen Sikken paint being used on some forumer's car (and certain portions on my car), and truly impressed with it. Better than Glasurit, in my humble opinion. :)

I agree with you Kevster.

kevster30,

then you should see my previous car... 6years down the line after spraying, you can park it next to any newly painted car, it will still shine like it just came out from the oven... Full Dupont.

My other ride, was using Glasurit, 5years down the line, still good, but not as excellent as my Dupont painted ride. The ex Bimmer, Spies Hecker, was also no where near.. But it was a little biase as I had my Dupont painted ride with 4 layers of clear coat, as in sanding it down twice and recoating it twice again.

To me, the most important is not the paint, its the clear coat that they use. If you are using the normal Dupont clearcoat, yes, it will not last for long if there isnt any proper care. I dare say that Standox, Spies Hecker & Glasurit have very hard clear coat, which is not polish friendly since i do it myself. :aggressive: The Dupont High Solid, which to me is the same par as the others, is also hard, but just not as hard though unless you do it like my ride, which was a b17ch to polish down.

My current ride is on Kansai Paint, Kansai Crystal effect and Standox clear coloured pearl and mixture of Dupont High Solid as the clear coat. i cannot share anything with it just yet as its only been 6 months....

Hi sifu out there,

I am planning to have my E46 respray to another color. I have heard some comment on the material of the paint.
Any recommendations on the workshop?

Anytime you are ready, just PM me bro.............

Notiguy,

I saw some Zainos product in your friends armoury of aerosols. Can you get him to comment on it. The reviews I've read so far seem to suggest that it is probably the best product to use for that Ultimate Show car shine..

tank34,

will ask him bout it. I myself was using it, but it was too time contraining. So i opted for MGs, more user friendly.

Zaino is brilliant but may not suit everyone's taste. It has a very synthethic look which lacks depth. I would recommend it on lighter color cars as the gloss level is amazing!
