This is what i understand. Is it correct. We have to change the engine oil once the bars is reduced from 5 to 1. I've driven the my ride for about one and half month and 1 bar has dissappeared. It may well be after 6 months before the next oil change is due. Is it correct. What is inspection I and II?thanks

The indicator does not depend on the duration, rather the distance travelled. :D Whats the milage you have clocked since your last service?

I dun use the bar as my guidance ..

For me, change every 8,000 km - semi -synthetic

My workshop advises that the mileage covered will be too great by the time it drops to one bar and for full syn oil, he suggested 3 bars but I always change it after 10k km.

i also on fully synthetic, i change every 10k km, i don't really follow the bars...

mine is done every 45 days ..... semi syn.

use or no use ..... even if i've driven for 500km.. 45 days that's it. :p

ok. do you reset the bar everytime you change oil?

one other thing what type of service should i sent my car for, and at what interval. what is the bar function then. sorry lorr, newbie maa...

There is no fix rule to follow . The indicator is a reminder. It is your wish to reset after 1st or 2nd oil change. I change every 8,000km (full syn) and reset even when left with 2 bars.

Fully synth can last for 10K or 15K kms. Just check the quality of the oil using a white tissue to wipe the dipstick. If colour is brown ok, very dark brown to black, then must change. Change filter too!.

Me reset every service/oil change. And change oil filter every service and change gearbox and differential oil every other service.

On my E34, I tried that too...waiting for the service bars to drop till one....which works out to be around 13,000 odd km clocked.

My mech says its ok....BMW schedule is 15000km or 6months whichever comes first. But I guess no harm (only wallet injured) if you service more regularly.

But I must say...after the oil change, the car purrs like a pussy cat again !! So...I am going back to old school....10,000km CHANGE OIL !!
