Just serviced my alternator , changed a bearing/belt pulley on the alternator and the belt tensioner on the alternator belt. There's actually another belt tensioner besides the one for the AC belt. No more irritating noise anymore, but I'll have to wait until I start the car tomorrow morning to know if the problem is really fixed. The bearing/belt pulley was damaged due to the missing cover on it. fine sand could have managed to find their way inside the ball bearing and f@#ked it up. Once I am sure I have fixed the noise problem, I'll order the underside cover. I think this cover should have been included to all BMW meant for our market. It will definately prevent the ingress of water and fine sand, especially during raining days. Splash of water from pot hole / rain water on the road will come together with dirt and fine sand. The cover should tremendously reduce this risk. I think the air intake shouldn't suffer as the intake of the standard air filter box in in behind the left head lights and the air duct that cools the alternator take it's air from the plastic housing above the grill. RM410.00 is the price of the cover. Maybe I can try to get some discount if there's anyone else wants to install it too. To change a AC belt for me is RM63.00( RM48 for the belt + RM15 labour ) but to not have suffer from those irritating noise in the morning when going to work is priceless. Cheers.
