BMW is like Malaysia. You love your country, but you don't necessarily have to love the government. Especially if it requires substantial workshop time, and if parts start to fail. But yeah, a BMW has an effective lifespan, and those are its best years, so make the most of it. It may be temperamental, but that's what you get for pushing the technological envelope. After having three Mercs in the past decade, I've had a string of four BMWs recently, and while they throw tantrums and are sometimes belligerent, I think I enjoy a prop better than a 3 point star. The glory days of W124 tanks are over, sales are now based on gimmickery and 007 gadgets, so while they've taken the super-reliability away from us, there's still the spirit of the brand left.
