Hi There,Im facing a serious problem currently, my E36 4 speed Auto gear box not able to shift gear when engine was start (in N mode)... but only able to shift gear after the engine is off...!!!???The worsed thing is... my car park in a Basement car park...!!! some more is B2...!!! not possible to tow the car to workshop...Is there anyone are the E36 have the shift lock release button like those Jap Car...? and how to release the shift lock...?Many many Thanks

Err Sounds abit off but techinically you cant shift gear when engine is off. one way to confirm and try is take out your gear shift knob or leveler. if before face lift is the leveler like the airplane. if after facelift is the shift knob. take it out with the middle shaft which should be white color. then there is no more lock on the shifter so you can freely shift from gears to gears. You will need an allen key

I have find my way to searching around the solution on the web... finally... no related solution on it....>.<

End up i just trying search the E36 workshop service manual that i upload and share in the forum... finally found some related information...

I just remove the shift level cover, and using the allen key to remove the shiftlock solenoid, that the gear can be shifted and i drive the car all the way to my friend's workshop...

The weird thing is, when i show the issue to my friend... everything become normal... Arrrrggghhh.....#=.=
