Need an advice from all the gurus/sifus/masters/champions,3.5 year old CKD E46 325 with 85K mileage advised to replace gear box by SA (Sapura Auto). At first my DSC lid pop-up followed by weired sound from transmission tunnel. Towed to SA for further inspection = Gear monitoring problem. Suggested for gear box replacement by SA service advisor.Should I proceed with it or you guys have any recommended workshop that can do overhaul/recondition....Now still awaiting for goodwill terms appeal to BMW Malaysia.Really need fast & concrete advice/solution...really miss my ride....;(
 
More and more cases are supporting the myth of "BMWs are made to last for only 3 years", after which most of its major components will start to fail and require urgent maintenance attention. Failing which, the car will stall at road side!!!

Hafizzul, sorry to hear about your predicament. I encountered a similiar problem early this year (just before CNY, bad timing) ...there are w'shops that rebuild and there are some who swap, cost ranging from RM5k-9k and warranty ranges from 3 months to 2 years.

What was the error displayed on the MODIC when they diagnosed the car?

I suggest, if you can, take it to a gearbox specialist, I believe there is one called M-Scope in Segambut, who has all the testing equipment to check what is wrong. Also, ZF Malaysia could also do the same, test and rebuild. Since they are the manufacturer of the gearbox, they should give you the real story.

yes i agree, there is another gearbox specialist called Hi-Tech recond, its similar to M-Scope, try to get second or third opinion before deciding to change the whole unit because it will cause u a bomb. i think overall will cost u less than 8K
