The car is an Auto, but it has a selector which allows you to switch from E-S-(3-2-1) and it works!!!
Economy (uses gear 1-4)
Sport (uses gear 1-3 only)
3-2-1 is manual select (1- first gear, 2-second gear, 3- third gear, D- forth gear)
I find that with the auto box and the 325i engine conbined with the lightweigt of the E30, the drive can be quite spirited too. The shifting is quite smooth, I can barely feel the downshift when I floor the pedal. Cruising at 160 is very silent and controlled, but I fell the suspension is kinda springy. I hope a good new spring will solve that problem.
On the suspension side, here is a list of all the rubber parts I've changed so far...I opt not to go for PU bushes because I want to maintain the stock ride quality.
Subframe bushes

Engine mounting
Control arm bushes
Antiroll bar bushes
Suspension mountings
Flex disk
Long shaft bush
All coolant hoses are new
