Dear all, I just got an MF 4 spoke steering from a forumer yesterday. His is an e46 2003 facelift local model. Mine is e46 Yr 2000. However, when I fixed the MF to mine, the airbag signal lights up. I also realised that the airbag has 2 sockets going into it compared to mine which has only one. But the socket connecting to the steering column is the same. Are these airbag compatible.... thanks....

I just found out that the MF steering has a dual stage airbag whilst my original one has a single stage airbag... will try to disconnect the battery today and see whether the computer resets and recognize the dual stage airbag.

tried it again today.. disconnected the battery for one hour.... after fixing the airbag, connected the battery terminal... the airbag light is back....

need help..... don't know whether mine can fit the two stage airbag or not...

Just found out from another thread, have to remove green connector from airbag, so will try it tomorrow... wish me luck... if all ok then I can work on the volume control wiring...

Good luck bro. Hate to come to a conclusion, but i've read a few threads that says dual-stage A/B can't be fitted to single-stage A/B. I can't confirm this myself cuz i have not tried it.

Thanks bimmerholic.... I had a successful day today. Now my airbag light is gone... There are two connectors on the airbag module. One with a green connector and the other black. Beside the black connector is written 1 and the green written 2. All you need to do is remove the one with the green connector and it now works like a single stage airbag..... hope this is useful for all who those who wanna upgrade to MF with 2 stage airbags...

My next task is to retrofit the wiring to make the functions on the steering work... downloaded from the internet... a 1 hour job.... Will update .... wish me luck...

This is the two stage air bag and you can see the green connector... thats the one that must be removed

Front airbags
The front airbags (driver and passenger airbag) support the function of the seat belts and prevent the head
from making contact with the steering wheel or dashboard in the event of a head-on collision.
The passenger airbag and belt tensioner on the passenger side are not triggered if the control unit recognises
that the passenger seat is not occupied.
2-stage airbags are used for the driver and passenger.
Only stage 1 of the front airbag or stage 1 and stage 2 are triggered depending on the detected intensity of
the impact. A variable delay time that is also calculated on the basis of the acceleration values is set between
ignition of both airbag stages.
On the country-specific version for the USA, an additional differentiation is made as to whether the occupants
have their seat belts buckled. If the occupants do not have their seat belts buckled, the triggering thresholds
are lowered so that the airbags are triggered earlier in stage 1 and stage 1/2.

bro, r u using original bmw business radio unit? or third party unit? as it can cause ur MF to malfunction as well...

Its a bmw business unit.. took me about three hours to get the wiring done... you can do it within 1.5 hours if you know how to remove the wiring and dash units, look for the wiring ducts etc.... worth the time.....
