m40 gearbox problem

Hi guys...my e30 318 m40 gearbox ada few problem...first, susah nak masuk gear..kena masuk gear satu dulu baru boleh masuk gear reverse..kadang2 gear satu pun tak boleh masuk !!ultimate batu cave kata e30 318 memang macam tu....ade ke patut!!!! :getyourfactsright: :getyourfactsright: :getyourfactsright: clutch okey lagi..it must be something wrong...secondly...theres a " whinning" sound wherenever the car is moving....is it repaireable or must i go for 2nd hand gearbox??if so how much it will cost?...anybody has any idea? help me please....thanks & happy chinese new year..

The truth .. it is like that .. Throw-out bearing syndroms.

I hv changed the bearing before - and jus like what the mechanic said, it lasted only a few months.

But ur problem on the 'whinning' sound is diff. Maybe ur syncromesh or clutch or whatever is giving away. Open up the gbox and overhaul it (if they want to do laa ..). Otherwise, get a 2nd hand box (but risk of having the same problem..)

go for 1st hand if u can get, if not go for 2nd hand gear box. then keep the old one or u can give it away... overhaul ur current gearbox will cost u a bomb...

my gearbox also sometimes susah masuk reverse. so now everytime I'll engage 1st gear then reverse. but smoother on new gear oil.

no wonder laa when i asked my mec' bm world' he seemed not so worried about that even after he tested drive my car....okey jee..katanya btw does anybody know how much it cost for new &2nd hand gearbox??

When was the last time the gearbox oil was changed? Also, try blipping the throttle slightly before try to engage 1st or reverse.

Morning kev..I already changed gearbox oil twice for the last 2 months .First Shell & 2nd Elf (dunno the correct rating) both are pricey but result lebih kurang jee...thank for the tips..cheers

hey thr bro i had the same problem. The winning could also be coused by the inner bearings. there is 4 no.

i changed mine the bearings alone (FAG) cost me RM980.00 not including the rest of the overhaul and it is very very hard to get. Took my mech abt 2 weeks to source it.
