hi sifus i am thinkin of installing quaife LSD on my e60 530i with automatic transmission. i know they work great for manual & SMG equipped cars but what about auto? any opinion or advise is much appreciated...thx

perhaps you should first what are the traction controls and driver's aids your car has.. Especially those working on the rear diff.. DSC, EBD bla bla bla...

And then you find out whether the Quaife would conflict with all these electronic driving aids.

Not sure whether it will interfere with the electronic traction controls or not tho quaife have been installing on e46 non ///M for quite some time w/o any problems ... DSC would cut in if it detects loss of traction/wheel slip. Quaife LSD works by transferring power incrementally to the wheel that have traction. Shipment fees will cost a bomb :D

not really...it cost only about 105pounds (RM550) to ship to Msia. our government gets a bigger share than this when you purchase :)

anyway i think the main issue here is not between the LSD & electronics coz u can always switch them off. question is whether the LSD would affect the steptronic gearshift? any reliability issue? u know...bmw auto tranny can be quite crazy sometimes

Yup you're right bro my bad it wouldnt cost a lot to ship to m'sia ... Quaife quoted me GBP900+ incl of shipping :D As for the gearbox i don't think it would pose any problem as the LSD will replace our open diffs which is located on the rear axle ... Shoot them an email see what's their response and dun forget to post em up here :D

quife quoted me GBP900+ (delivered) too... its for a 330iA LSD which they claim to fit on a 530iA, 'the diff conversion kit uses the original gear set from your final drive, so the ratio doesn't change.' i wanted to get opinion from some with experience other than the seller but cant seem to find it on the net, most are using manual and highly recommends the LSD, some with steptronic voiced out concerns...

so did you end up buyin the kit? wanna look for a group buy? maybe can save on shipping & 'tax' hehe

Hehehe ... how to save on tax??? I'm putting the idea on hold for now cos budget doesn't permit :D

For drifting, Quaife's torsen diff is not ideal. You'll need the clutch type LSD....

Why is it not suitable bro? Am still not familiar with the clutch type diffs :D
