Knocking Under the Car

I have been getting some metallic knocking sound from inder the car. It happens when the car has been running for a while. (hot). It's around the driver/ gearbox area. I have changed the gearbox mounting, engine mounting and ALL the linkages for the front struts. It's still there. The only thing left is the absorber mounting. Any clues?

Have you checked the exhaust pipes? Could be coming from there.

The suspect could be the exhaust. Sometimes testing by knocking the exhaust box from under the car is not good enough. I had similar experience with the E28.

Finally, took out the exhaust box shake out all loose matel particles and reinstall the exhaust. Knocking sound gone.
