My key casing has seen better times and the round BMW logo covering the LOCK button in the middle has even fallen off. I was told that I have to change the whole key. Isn't it possible to just change the casing? Anyone done this before?

I had ask my friend from AB on this issue. He said that we need to bring the old key and handover to them with the pink slip. Without the pink slip they wouldn't accept to create a new key due to against the AB Policy on key duplication. It will cost us RM 700 for the new key.

Thanks acidburn. Wow! RM700 just to change a key casing! Actually I know AB changes the whole key. But I was just wondering if it's possible to change the casing only. Surely the electronics part is not stuck to the plastic casing? Shouldn't have to change the whole key just to get the plastic part changed?

Hi alxy

I think it can be done with the key specialist. But they will use external casing with BGA ( Ball grid array ) board inside and copy your existing data and upload to the new ones. I saw 1 key specialist shop in Penang with BMW, Mercedes and Audi Logo. Not sure whether it works or not :)

Bro alxy, if you able to get the casing or the logo, please do let me know, k?

Best still, get one for me and mail to me and I bank in the cash to your account hor... JB is more like a kampung, so I really can't find the logo here.

Thanks a million in advance!

you could go to a commercial sign shop and make the logo. Then stick it on top of the faded logo. May cost you about RM10 ringgit.

Thanks all for the help. Now to see if I can find similar thing being offered here in KL.
