I have seen the ori S38B36 in Malaysia but not S38B38 yet (halfcut, yes) ...

It's easier to convert to a 4.0 liter as compared to the S38B36/B38.
Less headache , and less cost .
Less bhp but fat torque.

to be honest - i find that the 4.0 or 4.4 are more robust than the S38B36.

S38B36 too me - is a bit 'manja' and temperamental ...

4.0/4.4 power delivery is smooth up to redline
S38B36 is 'hard' esp after hitting 4200 rpm . U can hit 8,000 rpm - no problem .
