"... our little BMW diesel, which we'd bought from the classifieds, for £11,000, was such a joyful car to drive. Even with a revised engine management system, it wasn't what you'd call fast. In fact, it was what you'd call slow. But with lower, stiffer suspension, slick tyres and bigger brakes it cornered and gripped like no car I'd ever driven before."" All the way from Stowe to the pit straight, it was an easy match for everything up to, and including, the 911s.""Often, the stuff that comes out of the Top Gear technology centre is a bit of a disaster. But that BMW? Jesus. It was astonishing."Full article on JC's BMW revelation here. He tussles with supercharged works Jaguar, 911s, and Golfs. No mention of any Alfas anywhere.http://www.topgear.com/content/features/stories/2008/02/stories/09/1.htmlhttp://www.topgear.com/content/features/stories/2008/02/stories/09/2.html

Actually it wasn't an old BMW, it was an E46 330 dti Sport that they took out to the 24hr race.

And as you can see, they had some fun with the "sponsor" stickers: :D

My favorite quote.

"Quite apart from the cost of the car, and the modifications, our tyre bill at the end was £6,000. Money, though, should concern no one engaged in a pursuit of happiness. It was invented for spending."

That JC is a wise dude...

Sorry for the 'old' in the title. I meant "little BMW diesel bought from the classifieds" but it was too long to fit the title, and now I can't change it.

E46 - old
E36 - dinosaurs... ok?

The article does not mention it, but in the video, JC (or was it Hammond?) caused an Aston Martin to crash rather spectacularly.
