Rising crime rate did not come about overnight. In actual fact, we have an alarming socio-economic problem which has contribute to the problem.I was in Butterworth a couple of weeks ago and the 'Mat Rempit' issue is striking fear to all the residents there. The police is fighting a big battle with them there. But looking deeper into the issue, one question remains, why do we have mat rempits. These are the future generation who are supposed to be taking over the country's development to make it a better place. Instead, they are 'taking over' the country by terrorising the streets. My point is that crime is the outcome of a more serious underlying problem which the gov should start looking into. Crime prevention starts from home and in school. Not on the street. If only the government was more interested in cultivating an education system which would place more emphasis on the weaker students instead of chasing for A's, then we would have school leavers which still can survive in the real world on their own 2 feet. It's quite evident that we are into chasing 'Paper Aces' rather than grooming the young, all of them.</blockquote>
