Irregardless of which insurance company you purchase your insurance from, you can either get the car repaired at any of their panel workshop or any of BMW franchise workshop eg Autobavaria. In general all workshops ( panel workshop and franchise workshop) will apply betterment depending on the age of your car. Betterment will start at 15% if your car is 6 years old and this increases to 40% as your car gets older. I can't remember the exact scale of better offhand. In simple terms betterment means you have to contribute to part of the replacement parts cost because you are getting new parts for you used ones. Your old parts has a life span and as it gets older the lifespan gets shorted. So if you get new parts, it is deemed to be fair that you contribute to the purchase cost. It is your option to choose to pay your share of the betterment charges. If you do not wish to pay, then you can ask the workshop to use second hand parts or OEM parts. This only applies to non franchise workshops. AutoBavaria will insist on using their original parts only so you will have to pay your share if the car is repaired at AutoBavaria. The only exception to this betterment rule is where you purchase your insurance from Autobavaria whereby they have an arrangement with a specific insurance company if I remember correctly whereby betterment will not be applied for cars less than 10 years old. Hope this helps.
