Hi guys & gals,

My sincere greetings to all you bimmer faithfuls!

Well, my 528i is not dead yet, so the title of this post might not be that correct.

Perhaps a more suitable word is 'coma'.....   Here's my story:

Bought this '97 e39 when my biz venture was doing well abt 3.5yrs ago. I keep it as an adult toy, while having a Mitsubishi N84W as my main ride.

I got it cheap coz the prev owner left it in quite a miserable cond, and i enjoyed refurbishing it and grooming it back to life.

1.5yrs into ownership, one day after fetching my son from school, i inadvertently left the key at the ON position (engine off already)... A few hours later when i came back to it, the battery had gone flat & i could no longer start the engine. I called a friend who ran a car batteries biz, but he was abroad. I tried to jump start the bimmer using my Mitsubishi, strangely it did not work.... :argh:

Unfortunately during that time, my biz was in a slump, i didn't have much cash to go buy a new batt immediately. So i was waiting for my friend to return from overseas......

Incidentally, the battery in the car key went flat too (prior to the incident described above), so i took the coin battery out from the casing, and went out to buy a new one. Alas, i didn't keep the key & casing properly, and my youngest child (2-yr-old then) came across it & played with it. When i came home, the key, casing, keychain etc were all scrambled around..... and the tiny chip was lost !!!!

Me, my wife & the other children searched hi n lo for this indispensable chip, but we just couldn't locate it in a house of 1800sqr-ft built-up-area :102:

So, it was one bad thing led to another.....  And my biz plunged further. I had no extra money, and no choice but to leave it as it was.....And two years has now passed.

By God's grace & mercy, i managed to turn around my biz, and things are looking up now. So i reckon i'm ready to give my bimmer a new lease of life now.

Here's my tudu list:

- get a new key with chip

- get the transponder re-coded

- get a new battery

- replace all engine fluid (lub oil, power-steering fluid, coolant...etc)

- buy insurance, pay road tax

But i'm at a lost of how to get these done in a correct order  , issues to be cautious of,  and the cost involved.

So here i seek your precious advice, suggestions, recommendations please,  dear bros & sis who are more experienced!

Are the steps in the tudu list above sufficient? Did i miss anything?

Yes, please help!

To those who offer kind help, i promise to belanja you to a restaurant luncheon or dinner :)

FYI, i'm located in Johor Bahru. Cheers!
