I am sorry if this has been asked before, but my search didn't come up with any good results.I need an ICE recommendation and a good shop for installation for a 2009 E89 Z4.Thanks much.

Paul,

Actually, after having been thru the ICE bug once, I can safely say that I do not recommend spending more on the system you already have on the Z4.

A car is already a hostile environment for a good ICE setup. A convertible is the worst possible environment. An E89 with its folding hard top is better than an E85 but it is still some ways off a full saloon in achieving a good setup. What makes all Z4 even worse in that there isn't enough volume of space in the cabin and in the trunk to install a good setup.

My 2 cents. Maybe Van can add.

just throwing out a wild idea since i'm not familiar with stereo setup in the z4. i'd probably just add extra thump thump using a single shallow 10-inch or double 8-inch in a sealed box nicely hidden behind rear seats powered by one of those class D amps about the size of a 7-inch tablet. no cutting anywhere or ugly boxes taking up space in the boot. can probably consider earthquake sws that many use to replace stock underseat bmw woofers on e90. not going to give the very low audiophile type bass definition but i think strong hard hitting 50-70hz bass probably matters more in a convertible.

Thanks Saat.

Erica, you mirror my thoughts exactly, definitely not looking for any kind of audiophile solution, but I was hoping for a good bang for buck upgrade, if that even exists for the car.... c'est la vie. And you hit the nail on the head again with regards to space, I wouldn't want to add anything intrusive into an already confined cockpit and boot....

Still haven't gotten any suggestions to an experienced audio shop who's worked on Z4's :(

Last thing I'd want is someone messing up the electronics....

Another idea which has been employed before which is not tat wallet burning as well. Get a active subwoofer which fits right under seats. well most seats. that way you will hear the bass as well up front instead of the back and its nearer to you compare to the boot area. the more expensive method would be there are a few flat design subwoofer in the size of 8 inch or 10 inch. Most recently saw a Alpine SWR-T10 type-r thin subwoofer being installed into a ferrari which is also notorious to have small boot space. it might have been T-12. sound was acceptable and the magnet was very very heavy so the it can handle quite a lot. amps wise you dont need to worry there a quite a number of good powerfull amps which are small in size. shop around and you will find your answers cheers

very neat install and fantastic info. personally, i'd prefer having the sub and amp behind seat in cabin if there's space between seats and rear bulkhead. probably dead space anyways.

The 10 inch JL sub used requires about 4.5 inch mounting depth but a shallow sub like earthquake sws 8 inch takes up less than half and works in e90 as underseat replacement subs. The new/current gen class D sub amps are incredibly small, e.g. the rockford punch PBR dimension is 6-3/4"L x 4-1/4"W x 1-1/2"H.

the one size fits all off the shelf active sub not my cup of tea cos their performance leaves a lot to be desired. and also i like a more 'integrated' finish.
