Guys, trying to DIY to replace this actuotor. tried to push back the lock mechanism ( long and thing ) tru the small opening after replacing the actuator.. alas, has being trying all evening but still cant.. any idea ?

The actuator can be access from the rear boot compartment.

1. Open the boot.
2. Open cover at the wheel arch (right side). Maybe have to remove battery cover and other thing hanging there.
3. Actuator can be seen once you open the cover.
4. remove the actuator.

Mr Jarance, morning!

I noticed lately my left side mirror didnt tilted down when reversing.. what are the posibility failure and what should i check first?

Can it be moved manually by the switch?

If can, then there is nothing nothing with the motor of the mirror.

if cannot, the problem is the motor. It could be a loose connection in the mirror.
It your reverse switch working?

Here is a picture of my E46 mirror. Your might the same.

Make sure the mirror selection tab is pushed towards the right mirror on the controller. Then select R and see if left mirror tilts downwards.

ahaa... thks jarance n bimmerholic

Its all because of just using this e39 for the pass 1 month! Bimmerholic is correct! the mirror selection must always on the right side..

Hahah....good to know it's just the selection issue and not the motor

Calling Mr Jarance & Bimmerholic,

I noticed reading on the meter abt outside temperature always showing ' - 40 '.. isit because of the outside temperature sensor kaput already and if so, where its located and can we replace it by DIY?

Just look for this thing shown below.

For E46, it located on front side just under the passenger headlamp.

For E39, it's underneath the front right tire arch. It's located towards the front bumper on that side.

Thanks!!!.. but havent much time to looks for that sensor yet.. another case happened. After reaching top of G Highland last Sunday my radiator burst and i got it replaced at one Workshop attached to Esso service station up there. 2 days after that i got it back and speeding back home for Kuantan and while stopping at R&R Temerloh for refueling the expansion tank pulak crack and hot water gushing profusely.. Yesterday i got it glued with 2-tons glue and manage to drive it back to Kuantan.. Going to replace that expansion tank today.. That tank has been replaced last 2 years and i'm wondering if something else matter like faulty thermostat or what?..

Better get it check ASAP.. Radiator cracked and Expansion cracked at about the same time indicate that there is something wrong for a 2 years old cooling system (I presume you used new and original equipment)

Just be careful. The BMW engine are known to FAIL due to rapid loss of coolant.

Thanks.. while at Mentakab yesterday i just cant find coolant for BMW and end up with one for 3 pointed star coolant.. izit advisable to use it or should i look for ori bm's coolant.. thnks Jarance

I've got a feeling after replacing the radiator, the bleeding process was not done properly and there may have been some trap air still inside the cooling system. Thus when you were blasting down memory lanes, the air would have expanded so much that it blew the expansion tank beyond expansion. Just a theory...

if the outer temperature sensor is defective and it shows -40, your aircond will go haywire during rainy season!!

Corrrect Sir!!

Thats another thing i wanna share also..
I got it checked at Naidu's but when got it test its look normal.. no wonder laaa..
So Mr Naidu did ask me to be wit it at least until i give him more reasonable symptons!

Mine will blown normal air after some times during raining times and at the same time this ' OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE -40 C ' message appears on the dash!

yup..change the sensor and everything will be back to normal..it cost me RM 145

Theory is wrong. You can see that maximum mark in the expansion tank. There is always a "air" pocket. This is to allow the expansion of heated water. Liquid is harder to compress than air.

Air pocket form in the cooling system is a dangerous thing to have. It will prevent the water from flowing properly thru the engine water jacket. Over heating will occurred resulting in crack cylinder head. Have you ever seen a hairline crack or blown gasket.

Hairline crack could be due to air pocket and blown gasket could be due to rapid loss of coolant but both are related to overheating.
