Please bear in mind the rubber hose, thermostat, expansion tank, radiator, radiator cap, plastic hoses are all exposes to the same hot water circulating in the cooling system. Some material are ABS, some are plastic and some are rubber. They have a certain life span. (Normally 4 to 6 years). In accordance to BMW recommend Inspection, certain things have to be replaced regardless whether it is broken or not. I have replaced the radiator when it leaked. then I replaced the expansion tank a few week later. After a few months, I have to replace the rubber hoses and the thermostat. Finally, I have to replace 2 ABS hoses under the air intake manifold and the radiator cap. All different material failing in the span of 6 months. The amount of time and trips to the workshop is tiring. Now, I hardly top-up any water even after 6 months.
