Hi,my ignition key jammed in the switch. When I tried to free it, my ignition switch snapped internally (BMW anti-tamper design) and is now useless - the key just spins freely.BMW don't supply just the switch - you have to buy switch, door and boot locks and keys - over RM2000!!!My idea is to bypass the switch entirely and convert to push button start.I have seen both various kits and wiring diagrams/instructions about doing this on US and UK forums, but I don't know where to get the parts in Malaysia and am not sure that I am up to doing it myself. Some say they have used the BMW Z series push button starter, others use standard switches etc. One kit is by Galotech, "GTStarter1" - but they don't ship outside the US.I live in Kuantan/Pahang and don't know who can do this locally.Any ideas, parts suppliers, recommended workshops in my area etc would be gratefully appreciated. Many thanks in advanceMike

I think your plan is doable, but im not too sure .... there are a lot of after market push start button sold in accessories shop and even mudah.... good luck trying!

but have you tried looking for the item from local chop shops? or easier, you have to car jack your own car every time you decide to take it out for a spin

Last time my car used PIVOT push start button but after 6 month kaput because of wiring not suitable
for BMW. Suggest buy new one steering lock ignition key (rm180) at INNER POWER KL call them if can pos to u .

avedis, actually by doing the push start button does not help even you do not solve the key switch problem first !!

the key moves freely, what happens if it moves to shut down when driving or acc cranking OR worse in steering lock position !!

get a mechanic to replace the back switch first, there's a lot spares from chop shops easily attainable , buy and change, dun worry about to spend RM2000 for a new set, even the old key barrel key can be removed and you can do replacement key easily.

hopefully this helps...

cheers
