Mal, First get a realiable mech. I think the guys in KL may be able to give you some good advise on who to see. Next, get the mech to do a compression test. I think with the rate of engine oil consumption, you may have no choice but to open up the engine to get to the root of the problem. I understand how you feel, been there mate, but I learnt the hard way that buying a second hand car is always a gamble esp if you arent experienced. Having just bought the car , you got two options:- i) sell the car at a loss: ii)Fix her up. If you want to fix the car i think you have no choice but to get to the root of the problem by opening up the engine to inspect the engine. Based on my basic understanding of a car, the engine is divided into 2 main parts namely:- i) the cylinder head: ii)the engine block The cylinder head contains the valves and valve seals. It can crack if the car overheats as happen with my car and I had to change it just after getting the car as my mech did not pick-up this problem when I asked him to inspect the car b4 I purchased it. Now the engine block has the pistons and pistons rings. Normally heavy engine oil consumption relates to something wrong here. A friend of mine who had to top oil every 2 weeks or so recently had to change his piston rings. The car may have been poorly maintained with irregular oil changes affecting either the piston rings , pistons or the bore. The only way to be sure is "open heart surgery". Correct me if I am wrong guys.
