hi guysscan anyone help me with this symbol? what it means? on the dashboard - (!) with dotted lines at the bottom? thanks

oh ok. its the tire pressure warning sign. got nail in one of the tires :(
can i just patch up and not replace the rft? cos i wanna switch to normal tires once botak already la.

cheers

That means the OBC is trying to tell u something. Be it u forgot to wear seat belt, or your fuel balance is less than 70km, or your oil change service is due, or u have a flat tyre, or your engine has a mulfunction.

To know the exact cause of trigger, access your OBC, gets into the "check" menu and hit the ">" button to select, OBC will display the exact cause.

Ok. Tyres.. can patch depending on the size of the puncture, best open the tyre and patch from inside, will cost u about RM25 compare to the rubber insert which cost about RM5. Still, its considered a damaged tyre. Try to avoid excessive speed.

Both tyre manufacturer and SC will discourage patching, not only on RFT but on all kinds of tyre because once tyre punctured, dispite patched, its performance is unpredictable. They don't want u to take risk.

Good luck!

thanks astro for the heads up! I am so bloody angry now cos my wife had this puncture and i told her to go to Ingress thinking that they can fix it. Instead, she was told they dont do repairs and they told her to go to a workshop in mutiara damansara. what the hell is a bmw workshop for if it cannot handle an emergency like this???

damn

Nothing to be angry about. Its just a puncture and it can happen to anyone. U only wish that its not a sabotage in which case, u may lose your car or your wife harmed!

Ingress is just a service center, like any other service center, even UMW Toyota, they are not allowed to patch tyre, for the customers' own safety. They have already gone the extra miles by guiding u to a nearby tyre shop.

Relax.. your wife is more precious and don't let a stupid puncture jeorpadise your relationship. A punctured relationship is even more difficult to "patch".. It cost me a Coach handbag to fix my last "puncture".. :p

Coach repair must mean it was a big screw(up). :D

I had mine punctured two days ago.

Was on LDP, when the warning sign appear. Made a quick stop and checked all the tyre pressures. You can't really see it flat from the out side. Both fronts were OK. it's the right rear, down by 25%.

So drove it to Sunway and they did and inside patch. Took them about 30mins and I was on the road again.

Lucky I was in the Klang Valley. Two days before that, I was in the valleys of Belum rainforest (East-west hway).

yeah ok nothing to get angry about. Just that now i know that its better to go straight to Ah Keong on the roadside than the Official BMW experts :)

if they really wanted to be service oriented they would have taken the tire out and sent it to the shop and fixed it for me while i have coffee in their empty cafe.

that's service.

the mechanic did mention after the inside patch done that the contis he repaired became 'pregnant' at the puncture spot after a few months. beware la.

Sorry bimmerdude, but that's not being fair. BMW service centres are not tyre shops. If they were to remove your tyre, they would have to start a job order, and therefore charge you for the service. I don't think you'd want that, nor their non-tyre trained mechanics to remove and re-mount your tyre. Isn't it better that they asked you to go directly to a tyre shop? Lower cost, better job.

They repair BMW mechnicals, not tyres. It's the same for other marques' service centres including MB.

sorry but i expected that level of service from a company that charges premium dollar for their cars. I dunno about other marques, and if thats true then its sad for the consumers in malaysia. Maybe there is a legal reason for it... in which case they should have pointed this out to owners either in the manual or in email updates because common sense would tell you to bring your car to the nearest bmw authorized dealer if there is an emergency.
What is even more surprising is that they expected a lone lady driver to find the workshop using a flat tire. what if something happened on the way to the workshop ?
And now with their Condition Based Service its even more a hands off approach they are taking.
Now, who's being fair here?

Of course i realise saying these in a bmw sponsored forum is likely to bring out the responses i expect.

I do agree that they should have offered to accompany your wife to the tyre shop, especially in that area.

But you did say "...and fixed it for me while i have coffee in their empty cafe", so that sounded a bit unfair. :)

Unfair will be the SC take out your tyre, send it for patching, put it back for u and slap u with a 2 man-hour time cost, on top of the patching bill by Ah Keong tyre shop. Mind u the 2 man-hours time cost charged by SC would be in the region of RM100.. and for SC to make that RM100, there are putting the customer at risk of using a patched tyre that can fail anytime. They would surely won't want to make the RM100 for obvious reason and hey, u don't need a reason to enjoy their coffee. They welcome u anytime, despite dropping in just for the coffee.. I do that! :D

actually i dont mind paying for services rendered. Here, i am pointing out what i think is a low standard of service coming from a high level company like bmw. Its not a money issue. And it has nothing to do with the people at Ingress, but more of a official policy i am not happy about. Just my two cents.

I guess I understand how you feel but I think it is really too much to expect the type of service you were expecting. BMW does not recommend you to patch your punctured tire. If Ingress ignored this and did it for you, what happened if after patching the tire and something happened with the patched tire shortly after tha and caused accidentt??? If money is not an issue, you could have asked Ingress to replace the damaged tire and I am sure they will be more than happy to do it for you. To ask an authorized BMW service center doing something that BMW does not recommend it to do is, to me, an unreasonable expectation.

Let me give you a better example to be mad about a BMW service center. I sent in my car for repair at AB. For a long time I did not have any updates from them. I had to chase them myself many times. They don't pick up your calls most of the times. I gave them instructions (e.g. replace my wind shield, fix minor scratches on the door, etc) but the person did not communicate to the mechanic. So more delays. Finally, on the day to get back my car, I was told that they accidentally dented the front bonnet of my car! :thefinger:

well, if THAT happened to me, i would have burnt down the SC and give them the bill for my effort :)
