Help on buying a 528

Dear All,I am new here and am a great fan of the 5 series.I came accross a 528i, 1997 model going for RM 79.8K, one owner. The front lights look to me like the E39 model but am not sure of the engine model. From the above specs what do you guys think? Is it a good buy and also what kind of question would I need to ask?Also what major repairs need done in 10years?There is also a 1997 328i model, are these ones any good?Appreciate any info you guys can share, the car is with EOA Auto Sunway.Rgds

Hi Jain,

In Sunway near Konetena Nasional area... I believe there are two e39 528i, at least last I check 2-3 weeks back.

Carefull with the one near entrance... I noticed the right fender looks newer compared to the left, looking from engine compartment. The solder joints look a tad different too.

Going further in, almost at the end, there's another e39 528i with beige interior. Did not check this one as I'm avoiding beige interior at all cost... got little devils at home la...

You could check Old Klang Road... from PJ old town into Old Klang Road, turn right. At one point the road narrows down to two lanes, with almost sharp left turning. Immediately you'll see traffic light junction, and a second hand car dealer on your left, corner lot... theres one e39 528i. Didn;t check too detail on this one.

Further down, another 528i on your left. But this one looks scary.. moded kaw kaw... sure sudah pegi 'laysing' punya!!

In all of the above I do not remember the 2nd car Dealer name/company... as I was only concentratin gon the car!

Depend on the condition anf how you maintain yr car.

There is also a 1997 328i model, are these ones any good?
This is e36 ..... different league compare to e39.

Appreciate any info you guys can share, the car is with EOA Auto Sunway.
Saw the car yesterday while lurking around, the one with beige interior is low-spec, next to it the one with grey interion is high-spec.

Just to add,

1997 might be the year of registration and NOT the year the car was made. 2nd hand car dealers sometimes pull a fast one using that "trick".

this is prob first batch E39 mfg 1996..btw at that price may not have comprehensive service history or very high milage

real helpful advise.

I like the beige interiors and by the way the Colour is Blue. I will try and have a look at it and others if I can get down to KL. If anyone has a chance to see it let me know how it looks.

I misworded when I asked what maintainance is needed in 10 years. What I meant to say was what should I expect in maintainance of major parts in a 10 year old E39. I could then be aware of what is'll cost to get it road going.

I am at a disadvantage being in Ipoh in this case so greatly appreciate your kind advise.

Is the 3 series no match for the 5?

I just checked out an E39 528. According to the salesman, it is manufactured and registered in 2001, local made (AB). But I thought 528 line had ceased in 2000?

Also, it's going for RM150k (may negotiate further). Mileage 60k+. Full AB service. Do you think it's a good buy?

I actually planned on getting a 2001/2002 525i...which one is a better buy?

Could be the last of the 528is from the last of the CKD packs. Check the ownership grant - it should state accurately the year of manufacture.
