Hello everyone and warm greetings to all! I'm Bob and really excited about my new ride, an E46 320i year 2000, 2.0L 6-potter (just took over the car from my bro) heh heh..I'm currently working in PJ and I hope to learn, discover and share stuff like tips, knowledge and stories about the much coveted ultimate driving machine...and also make new friends along the way.Really appreciate any feedback and support from you guys. Thanks!

Thank you bros!

Just replaced all four absorbers (using sachs touring cause wanted a comfort ride but now it feels kinda too soft..hope I didn't make a mistake there), mountings, cover and dampers, also the link rods and control arm bushing at the front.
Think might have a problem on one of my rear springs cause I spotted about half and inch height difference between the rear R and L. The steering has a bit too much free play to my liking...hope its no biggie.
The car feels great on highways (6-potter) tho i doubt I'll win any drag races (2.0L only) heh heh.

welcome to the club.............................no problem with your spring set-up, it's normal for E46 rear absober set-up. To confirm this pls consult your mechanic/workshop bro

Thanks for the advise kayz. Didn't check with the mechanic but asked around and all said the same, so its all good :top:
I'm experiencing some tramlining effects at the moment. Currently on 17" rims, 225/45 front and 245/40 rear tyres. Should I change to less wider tyres when its due? Thanks bro.

bro bobbo, your tramlining problem may not caused by the tyres as your size is standard E46 setup. is the alignment ok?

it could be your steering coupling problem as you have mentioned that there is freeplay on the steering wheel.

Hi bro elixir, the alignment was done after the absorber change. In fact, I had to do the alignment again, but for the back wheels only because later noticed the left rear lower arm was dented and went back to change it. Not sure why it wasn't picked up earlier. Hope the tyre shop didnt damage it while jacking up the car but I give them the benefit of the doubt la..

Hmm maybe the steering...notice some light sounding whrr sound when the steering is turned ever so slightly left and right when in the car...not sure if that is normal. Had a chance to look under the car and notice some leakage on a metal hose, located just in front of the steering rack (not sure what hose). Checked the real oem site and the closest one i found was under the hydro steering-oil pipes section, identified as the cooling coil. I might be wrong there. Guess I have to look at it again and have my laptop with me to compare the schematics!

The undercarriage cover was dry tho. Touched the leaky bits on the hose and it was odourless and no colour. Well actually its all black and grime heh heh. If from steering or gearbox should be red colour right? Weird thing is the undercarriage cover was bone dry. Means the leak is very minimal?

By the way where is the steering coupling? How about the ball joints and tie rod...is it the same?

Remembered the tyre guy said the steering got a bit free play and he deduced that it could be the steering rack problem. Checked around and apparently there are no new ones and can only get recond only...RM2k plus some more ..cheh. Moreover got no leak on the rack also. Or maybe its the lower control arm..maybe changing the bushings only wasn't enuff..dunno la so many possibilities yet so little answers.

Hmm sometimes I wonder if my expectations are too high and there really isnt anything wrong here...back when I was driving jap cars I wouldn't have given any two hoots hahahah.

Hope bros can help. Cheers!
