I have been looking at a few E46 318 recently. Examples ranging from a Nov2002 till recent. I noticed that the exhaust tip is too clean.Coming from the old school, I have alwys looked for one of the tell tale sign of engine condition from the residue at the exahust. The residue would indicate amongst other thing like excessive oil consumption (oily or shiny black residue), rich (black dull residue) or lean (grey-brown residue) mixture. But 5 examples on the E46, there was almost no residue. There is no way that the exhust can be cleaned to remove all residue. The most I saw was slight traces of light brown residue which would indicate correct-lean misture. Is this common to all E46 valvetronics?
