Should the gear indicator show that you are on Gear 2 when the vehicle comes to a halt while the manual gear mode is engage for the E46 325. Why does it not indicate as gear 1 instead.

its normal, actually this topic has been discuss before, from what i read from the previous reply, because our car is rear wheel drive and the torque is high and chances of wheel spinning is high on 1st gear, hence, its design to drop to 2nd and not 1st gear. can anyone confirm if the previous explanation to this question is correct?

It allows for 2nd gear acceleration to reduce wheel spin under adverse weather conditions (e.g. ice, snow - not in Msia obviously).
