bros and sifus.......... need some advice, my ride e36 318i, last week while driving in a traffic jam suddenly my car jerk once and the gearbox indicator pop up, so bring my car to my mechenic and changed the gearbox fluid, filters and mountings. got that done my car feels very smooth and got power. feel very happy. suddenly this morning on my way to office its happen again but this time i dont loose power like last time but still the indicator pop up. pull over to the road side, switched off my engine and restart, the indicator goes to off mode and things back to normal but i afraid it will happen again and is this a symtom to which i should change something..?? or wheather theres any electronic thingy that about to become "kaput". please give me some tips........ cheers...............

take it to a gearbox specialist and see what they say. a fault code can be anything. it could me an expensive rebuild or just a sensor change. but you have to take it to a trusted specialist. I like mscope in batu caves. Look for hong or ming.

thanks bro.....btw where about is this mscope..?? if it happen to be major problem, should i rebuild the gearbox or get the chopped one..? which one is cheaper and how much should i budget for..?

cheers.....

Did they reset the error codes?? Try disconnecting ur batt. terminals.

If its still there..Oolala...!welcome to BMW world.

:D
i might bwe wrong here...hehe..:D

Hey Dude, have not had your experience yet, but I just changed my Gear Box fluid last Sunday at MScope (Batu Caves) and am quite impress with those guys. They certainly know more than a thing or two about boxes. I can quote an experience a friend had and he would probably recommend that you do a "Re-build" of your gearbox. It's probably better than a re-con, you don't know what has happened to the box and cheaper than buying new.

I believe a re-build is when they take the box apart, piece by piece. The they put it back together and replace on those that need to be replace, either worn out, or getting worned out.

That's my 2 sen worth.

hey there!...im having the same problem with my E36 318i also..strongly feel its related to the EGS, but it could be your gearbox also as mentioned by a few other forum members. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. We could go to that place in Bt.Caves together....:) ..

cheers mate!!

Well I have also heard of the workshop "M-Scope" in Batu Caves. Was actually referred by my tyreman. He told me this boss of M-Scope used to run a workshop in Australia and they specialise in BMW. Anyone tried their servicing/ repair before apart from the gearbox repair?

A friend of mine has re-built his gearbox with them and was very satisfied with the work. I've only done a gearbox oil change with them, but that's a simple task. For a simple job like that, I would have stuck to my regular mechanic MSpeed.

my best bet is that jerkyness is largely due to faulty mass air flow (MAF) and not your gearbox....but i may be wrong....

Hi there,
I have the same problem wt my 328i E36. But it only happens when im driving on S mode, strange!! Did a modic and it read error "speed control sensor" replaced the bloody sensor[rm450] and was good. Drove up genting all the way on S mode wt no problems! This was 1 year ago, and lately it happened again when i push the car hard. Remember, it only happens when im on S mode, probably the sensor gone again? But now im starting to go wt ZOGGEE's saying...oolala' welcome to BMWworld!!! hahaha.. RM450 - lasted me at least one year..so still ok for me. Its worth having a look at that sensor..gd luck

cheers...

do the easiest first....

1. do the GTI test not MODIC...reset the error code....
2. if it occurs again, changed the Mass Air Flow/Air Flow Mass sensor...abt RM1+++
3. if it occurs again, do the test again, reset, and change transmission oil, filter, etc..
4. if it occurs again, the do a transmission build up...

my humble two cents worth
