Hey all,My 116 doesn't come with auto mirror folding mechanism, so I tried to do it manually, but can't seem to do it...almost broke it!  How does one fold the side mirror??

Wow... my E90 also no auto or power foldable side mirrors. Need to fold it by hand. Have not tried it myself but SA did show it to me. No special trick ma.. just lipat aje.. :D

Talk about auto-folding mirrors, even my e60 also cannot fold ler......according to my SA, it's because to make it flexible so that when some motocyclist knocks on it, it won't break:thefinger: What a bunch of crabs:stupid:

Even RM30K cars have auto-folding!

my E46 has auto folding but i wonder if it can auto fold when i press the lock button on my car key remote.

Hi, I did fold my 116i side mirror manually. It is hard, I need to put on some force to do so but I manage to fold it without breaking it. U could try again but no guarantee if u break yours:)

Now u have mention it, yes my E90 320i side mirror also very hard to manually fold it, but can fold la. I think still new or.... its made to withstand high air pressure when we are cruising above 200kph.. :D

my 120i side mirror also has no folding mechanism, but u can manually fold it coz I unfolded it when kena knocked by passer bys before.

It takes some muscle and skill to fold it by exercising the right force to the right section of the side mirror at the right angle. If grace can do it, the guys should not find it to be of any issue.. :D

Unless ur 1-silly really cannot fold wan... then u should be able to find out once the thing fall into pieces.. :D

No lar, I damn scared I pecah the mirror la...i used quite some force...dare not to go further leh....

Not sure if only because it is Japanese spec my 118i has folding mirrors at the touch of a button. The passenger side mirror also tilts down to better see the kerb when in reverse.

vasco...yours is a recond or from AB ? usually Jap-spec has lot more features..
auto-folding can be retrofitted but of course just need to pump it $$

Folding mirrors

Mnas,

I bought at auction and imported it from Japan myself. It has a an IMHO spec sheet - folding mirrors, evil i:drive (with no access to local FM band and a Japanese voice welcoming me to the car), zenons but no cruise or auto dimming mirror.

I'm hoping that someone here can advise me on firmware upgrade for i:drive that would allow me to use the sat nav etc.

I look forward to a group TT.

Vasco

hey vasco..is the I-drive on E87 the same as on E90 ? wanna just try put in the Nav DVD to see whether it works ? (I wonder if pirated Nav DVD will work..hahahhaa) :)

Mnas,

Sure. But you're in JB... I did not have i:drive on my E90 and quite frankly it isn't something that I would have paid for... I'm hoping that AB might have some answers (and a disc to try).

hi clint,
I am interested to know about your E46 auto folding side mirror. Does your car an E46 saloon? It comes with auto folding side mirror when you bought the car or you retrofit it? Thanks in advance.

To all sifu out there,
If anyone has E46 saloon come with auto folding side mirror (original E46 mirror), do share with me. Thanks.

I have been searching around for such option for quite sometime but to no avail. Checked with Performance Motor Singapore but they don't have retrofit kits.

116i

The 116i sold by BMW malaysia got not automatic folding wing mirror. You need to push it towards your side windows and i should work.

Not sure if the car is a grey import as the spec may change in different country. You may require some effort pushing the wing mirror especially it has been around for some years.

if you want to get autofold function, 1st you need to get a set of mirror with foldable motor and do some wiring modification + relay then you get electronic foldable side mirror.

I don't think it is so complicated. Look @ d parts list below:

Wiring is provided already.

Yea...apa...ra!! my Cbu E90 also without this foldable mirror. Frankly, its quite embarassing to fold it manually, since E90 is the latest flagship model for BMW. Admit that its bit hard to manually fold it, at first scared too. But later..much easier.

In my experience, normally japs spec mostly come with auto folding, sunroof, etc. As my E46ci came with it. But my previous E46 sedan cbu from south africa no folding mirror la....so went to fix aftermarket side mirror where later hide the active button underneath dashboard compartment. Pretty welldone job, i must say.

as told to me by marco, for the e90, possible to retrofit M3 current model auto folding mirrors with some wiring modification. my worry was would it trigger the computer error messages. according to marco, it shouldnt. has anyone done this retrofit on the e90 and can confirm 100 percent?
