Couple things to add... Not 100% sure about CKD models (but probably holds true) in the production process, each chassis/car receives its own specific wiring harness to run the specific options/equipment fitted/ordered onto the car. The wiring harness comes online just in time as with the engine/transmission (which at the time of assembly is already VIN etched specific to the chassis to which it is intended for). Not sure if BMW is being exact or its for cost reasons. That is why it is sometimes near impossible to retrofit certain major equipment onto a car that was not equipped as such from the factory. For e.g. retrofitting power heated memory seats to standard seats etc. as the proper wiring its simply not there. In the case of retrofitting the folding side mirrors you would find that the solution would never integrate fully into the car network. Don't forget its more complicated than that, the folding mirrors is also intergrated into the car/key profile along with all your hvac, seats etc settings. Also don't forget the car runs on MOST fibre-optics network (CCC on i-drive models). On the subject of RFT and FTM system, yes it is correct that the FTM in our cars are very basic indeed. There is no additional hardware, low tire pressure is sensed through the DSC system/ABS sensors. The DSC calculates and monitors the rotational speed at each corner and any variation within a specified threshold automatically registers as low tire pressure/flat tire. That is why its important to do the FTM initialization after every air pressure top up. What that means is that one can easily run on aftermarket wheels/tires without affecting the car or its systems. Not sure why or how AB treats aftermarket equipment and warranty (I hear they're pretty tight about it) but running on aftermarket wheels shouldn't affect your entire new car warranty, its just wrong. I mean, if your lights fail, how'd they blame your wheels for causing the failure?
