I m in Singapore visiting my friend and he has a CBU e60, 530i. He has lots of feature that i can't find in my CKD 525i, such as folded side mirror, keyless feature, GPS..... I m wondering whether our CKD can have our side mirror folded???

You can if you have the electric folding mirror option. If you have you will find a button next to the mirror selection button on the driver door handle.

With this option, you can also enable the folding (through idrive software by the dealer) when you press on the lock button on your key (not sure about CKD version though).

The GPS option is not that useful. It cost about S$8-10k. Not worth the money, just like the HUD; nice to have but not at that kind of money.

Confirmed... my 525i (CKD) does not have this feature..... Wondering whether i can fix 1??? if can, i also 1 2 fix the M5 side mirror. Any idea where i can get the side mirror.

There is a place in Kampung Baru opposite a shop call Jaya Audio. It is on the left before the mosque heading towards Jalan Sultan Ismail in kampung baru itself. E60 M5 body kit also available at below RM 10k ori. there is a big Alpine signboard on the building and a merc & Bimmer sport rims display on the first floor. you won't miss it. Hope you find it.

Bro Goldfish,

I always believed that BMW's come prewired for most of the available options even though the car was not optioned as such.

Check out www.realoem.com for the parts you might require.

To name a few would be:

1. New window switchgear panel. One that includes the fold mirror button.
2. New mirrors with the folding mechanism built in.

I can only assume thats it?

Then on top of that, if you want it to fold upon locking and unfold upon unlocking, you have to get AB to reprogram your idrive for you.

If indeed they'd do it.

I read about being able to play mp3's on forum.e60.net and i even provided AB with the service bulletin and full instructions which seems pretty damn straightforward and easy but still they are making excuses.

I suggest the M5 mirrors or 7 series style mirrors that fold upwards... :eek:k:

bro, my 330i e46 ride comes with folded side mirrors...cool but will cost you a lot if the motor rosak. just stick with your oem mirror la, save yr money for some other things...

k3nny,

how's your car behaving so far??? Upgrade anything yet? Are your tyres runflat tyres.... some people tells me yes, and my dealer told me no... I am confussed. Yesterday, i went the a shop that happened to have a guy changed his one mth old M5 19inch rim with Michellin pilot sport to 20 inch and he left at the shop to sell. Asking for RM11k.... i am tempted to buy and worry that whether the warranty will be void if the rim and tyre changed. The shop owner told me that my 525i M-sport comes with runflat tyres and not very confortable to drive. I experience the bumpy ride too..... Should i change???

hey goldfish.

Sorry for the slow response dude. Hardly at the computer these days due to a new job.. :)

Anyhow, have yet to upgrade anything but i have Hartge springs and an AC rear roof spoiler on order at Obermaier.

He keeps telling me next shipment next shipment. Fed up lah but nevermind lar. Not anxious to part with my dollars anyways. :)

My 525i does come with runfalts. This i can assure you.

All E60's come with runflats stock. Look at the tire. If there is a small circle with the words RSC inside, its a runflat tire regardless of the brand.

Your iDrive will tell you the same thing if u blew a flat or didnt reinitialize the RPA when you pump your wheels.

I would not bother with warranty from changing the rims and if something went wrong with your car that'd require warranty work, im sure you'd be able to find someone that would loan or switch rims with you while your car is in AB for warranty work.

The ride is uncomfortable i suppose but not unbearable. BMW isnt exactly known for its interior build quality and my car creaks and squeaks like a 17th century wooden warship.

It sent it back last week and it took 9 days before i got it back.

Here's the story.

It was making rattles from a few locations.

1. Rear parcel shelf.
2. Rear left door
3. Front drivers door
4. Dashboard
5. Steering rack everytime you go over uneven roads

And worst of all, under hard braking when the car is hot, after you brake hard and come to a standstill and still holding the brake, under the drivers footwell you can hear a HUMMMMM and feel a vibration that comes and goes and comes and goes but as soon as you lift your foot off the brakes, it stops.

One would be led to believe that its brake related then. However while then humm is doing its thing, if you turned off the AC, it also goes away.

That they were unable to rectify.

What they did however, was return my car to me unwashed with a big black oil stain on my grey carpet, oil prints all over ALL 4 of my door trims, oil stains at various parts of my rear seat leather and carpets and a scratch on the right side of my rear fender.

I refused to accept the car and chucked a fit and insisted that everything be restored to the way i left it, which was practically brand new and if they had to, they better damn well change the leather or carpets.

I eventually got it back in good shape and nice and clean however the rattles were gone but the hum is still there and the steering rack problem is still there.

I asked for a job sheet but the service advisor was unable to provide one. Just asked me to collect my car. Its shady because who knows that when i send my car in, they chuck it in the carpark and leave it there till i come and did jacksh1t.

I suppose the grime and oil in my car is an indication of work?

I think that in the process of "testing" my car for rattles, they also hit potholes relatively hard as my alignment is off now and i think the wheels need a balancing as it vibrates at high speed.

Bearing in mind of course, that i did an alignment and balancing 3 weeks ago before driving to Singapore.

Back to your question. Should you change? I guess its entirely subjective. I dont have 11k so nope, i wouldnt change. If you have 11k and would like new rims, i suggest you go for an aftermarket tuner brand ala Hartge, Breyton, AC etc.

A normal 525i M-Sport with M5 rims might come off as trying too hard maybe?

But they are great looking rims no doubt. :)

Death to AB.

nope, 11K wont get you Hartge, Breyton nor ACS either...unless they are used set...

Well, GOLDFISH : I can confirm too it is runflat that we are using. Rides are ok on highways until you exit them, with all the road contructions, not sure how long the 40 series and the 18in rims can endure such torture before giving way. How much do you plan to let your rim and tyres go for if you really wnat to change them ?
let me know too if you have your folded side mirrors installed. the thing is, we bought a 400k car and don't want to be seen pushing back my mirrors at parkings manually. haha.....

K3nny is right about AB, they seemed to be reluctant to do any modifications or retrofit anything onto your car even if you provide all the parts and instructions for it.

I';ve been told that even if i retrofit the m5 side mirrors, i won't be able to get it folded by the switch due to wiring indifference btween 525is and 530s ! isn't it the same car cept for the engine ? shrugs.

M-sport, you can PM me and leave your hp and we can discuss further..... Btw, i plan to change the tyres and rims to 19 inch

Hey k3nny,

What a bad experience !!!

Which AB service center did you send your car to ?

Couple things to add...

Not 100% sure about CKD models (but probably holds true) in the production process, each chassis/car receives its own specific wiring harness to run the specific options/equipment fitted/ordered onto the car. The wiring harness comes online just in time as with the engine/transmission (which at the time of assembly is already VIN etched specific to the chassis to which it is intended for). Not sure if BMW is being exact or its for cost reasons.

That is why it is sometimes near impossible to retrofit certain major equipment onto a car that was not equipped as such from the factory. For e.g. retrofitting power heated memory seats to standard seats etc. as the proper wiring its simply not there.

In the case of retrofitting the folding side mirrors you would find that the solution would never integrate fully into the car network. Don't forget its more complicated than that, the folding mirrors is also intergrated into the car/key profile along with all your hvac, seats etc settings. Also don't forget the car runs on MOST fibre-optics network (CCC on i-drive models).

On the subject of RFT and FTM system, yes it is correct that the FTM in our cars are very basic indeed. There is no additional hardware, low tire pressure is sensed through the DSC system/ABS sensors. The DSC calculates and monitors the rotational speed at each corner and any variation within a specified threshold automatically registers as low tire pressure/flat tire. That is why its important to do the FTM initialization after every air pressure top up. What that means is that one can easily run on aftermarket wheels/tires without affecting the car or its systems. Not sure why or how AB treats aftermarket equipment and warranty (I hear they're pretty tight about it) but running on aftermarket wheels shouldn't affect your entire new car warranty, its just wrong. I mean, if your lights fail, how'd they blame your wheels for causing the failure?

FWIW, I have annoying rattles on my 2006 week 6 build e90 as well. A lot of them seem temperature related. Rattle prone areas include B-pillar seat belt assembly, rear parcel shelf, center console creaks and seats.

Also, dealers are often very stingy to do the software upgrade. The s/w is uploaded via serial bus and it takes a mighty long time (software is updated on a module by module basis) and is also prone to mistakes. What that means is that a lot of labor hours are involved. In the US, software update request often mean an overnight stay at the minimum. Sometimes the car might behave differently after a software update e.g. rougher idling, increased fuel consumption. So, rule of thumb is if not absolutely necessary, I'd shy away from software updates especially if the AB service department is as inept as you guys paint them to be...
