Dear udmers,Has anyone tried re-sealing the tail lamps to stop water from leaking in, rather than replacing with a new set?I just emptied the water and applied some household sealant at noticeable leakage area but they look horrible now thanks to my DIY skills.Cheers.seewai

Yes, i did.

Last time when i facelift my rear light also got water seep into the boot area. I used the sealant to seal the touching area. No more problem after that.

Just apply the sealant between the light and car body. May be u have to try few time to get the best result.

i think you guys are refering to diffent thing, when I met seewai in 1 of the workshop and saw his nice machine, the rear lights has water inside his rear light. The sealing he was referring to is about sealing the light itself therefore, he would not have water sipping into it.
And what BMW7833 was referring to is about water leaking into the boot if I understand it right.

Bro Gerald, well my case is both sipping into the light and boot, the black waterproofing material has really worn out too much. I've applied sealant and it's still leaking into boot, and sipping into the lamp as well.

I think lesson learnt is to completely re-do sealing area before installing used tail lamps. I might just sell it off cheap cheap and get a new set to stop all headaches.

If water kena the reflector inside the light body, the reflector will lose the reflection, be careful.

I suggest using clear silicone sealant, it is more forgiving to the eyes even if applied not so perfectly.

That's exactly what I used. Yet water still found its way in, I think I didn't cover the entire sponge area, which explains it....really demoralizing. Getting a new set latest tomorrow. If any bros who love DIY and interested in my set, can gimme a PM. All bulbs functional, RM300.

Bought them for RM550 from a member a month ago.

seewai, since you figured out what could be wrong why not try opening it and sealing it again. You'd be proud of it later.
